I zoomed in on the copy of the check. It shows a hand written number on the front, it starts with esc. When I type it in in online status, it brings up an N400 with a Sept. 21st priority date, but I applied on Oct 9th. There's another computer generated number that starts with esc also on the back of the check, and it pulls another N400 with a priority date of November 8th, but again, they received my application on Oct 9th. Does anybody know which number is correct, the hand written on the front, or the computer generated one on the back? Thanks!

Never mind. Per the Ombudsman, the receipt number is the one located on the back of the check, but I'm just wondering if my pd is going to be Nov 8th. That means they're not honoring the received in mailroom date which is Oct 9th.

You're right, the number is the one in the front, I just misread one of the numbers. I called USCIS since I didn't receive my NOA from VSC. They received my application on October 9th. I was transferred to an IO I think who pulled it up, gave me the receipt number, and I was told they completed data entry and sent a receipt on Dec 13th, and I'm in line for fingerprinting, but it's not scheduled yet.
I tried to pull it up in online status, but it says the receipt number doesn’t exist, or it's not available at this time through the automated system. I hope he was telling the truth, because if they sent a receipt on the 13th, I would have received it on the 15th, or the 17th max.

Today I called USCIS and got both good news and bad news.
The bad news is that my application was ready to be sent to the local USCIS office, except that I am stuck in the FBI name check.
The good news is that the told me that they are going to go ahead and forward the application to the local office, and they will proceed when the name check is complete.
So now my progress is as follows:
10/10/2007 - Mailed N-400

the 800 number is called here on forum "disinformation" line, they can state and promise various things but you need to check with other sources too
i think they just told you that to just let you know that case is processed and pending, and that cases are generally due a FBI check and then generally go to local office, but i dont think phone reps have idea where exactly your case is or how close to any of this procedures.
but local office and interview are different line of events then fingerprints and fbi clearance, they can happen simultaneously and sometimes local office approved you and FBI pends for months after interview.

Okay, here is approximately how the conversation went:
Rep: (introduces herself)
Me: How are you doing? I filed an N400 application is October, but I still did not receive my fingerprint appointment notice.
Rep: What is your A#?
Me: It is ...-...-...
Rep: How do you spell your last name?
Me: ...
Rep: I see that everything for your application is complete except the FBI name check. We did not receive their reply yet.
Me: Okay...
Rep: One moment please
(Pause)
Rep: We are going to go ahead and send your application to the local office. Once the name check is complete, the local office is going to send you the (line noise) apointment notice.
Me: Thank you.
Rep: You are welcome. Good bye
Me: Good bye

Yeremeev, i think if you are male or if you are a citizen of countries from terrorism list and i think Russia is included because of Chechnia, they might take longer time for name check. as to the 800 info, even if USCIS approves your interview, you might still pend after that due to name check, unless they changed procedure. Rep. might just have used his\her common sense - assumed that interview at local office must require and should follow FBI clearance, but thar didnt happen in the past.
and during my immigration reps were giving me craziest irrelevant answers and i have read many cases online, like somebody called and was told that case is pending, and minutes later would receive e-mail of approval. the 800 number is not trustworthy, as to your biometrics letter, i'd recommend you make infopass appointment at uscis.gov and ask them to send it again

Delay is most likely due to fact that Yeremeev is a rather common russian last name and it is possible some criminal has it, too.

i think i got this info when i was getting my visa back in 2003-2004, i remember for sure - people from Russia get longer "additional" NVC checks prior to visa interview because of terrorism problem, may be it's not true, but terrorism is an issue in Russia and it can be reason enough to have longer checks, you never know with FBI and USCIS

Hello everyone,
I had my interview yesterday at the Pittsburgh DO. There were only three people waiting. My attorney and I waited about 13 minutes and we were called in. The officer was very nice, he went through each field and question on the N-400, and filled out paperwork for the name change. He then asked me for evidence of bonafide marriage; I gave him our lease, health and dental insurance information, and different loans we have. The DAO had me sign my old and new names, and said as a part of a new pilot program to make the process faster, we will have an officer do the test. He said I recommend your case for approval, and if you pass the test, you will be scheduled for an oath ceremony in federal court.
We went to another office, and the other officer asked me six questions:
1. Who meets in U.S. the capitol building?
2. Who was the main writer of the declaration of independence?
3. Who becomes President if both the President and the vice President die?
4. Name one benefit of being a U.S. citizen?
5. Name one of the purposes of the United Nations?
6. What kind of government does the U.S. have?
Then write "America is the land of the free".
The DAO officer gave this officer the N-652, she checked you passed the test, and Congratulations, you application was recommended for approval. This last officer which I think doesn't know much, she usually works at the counter, meeting individuals with info pass appointments, said when my security checks complete; I will get the Oath Ceremony letter. I asked her, are they still pending? She said not yet but they will be My attorney said if they were still pending, the DAO would have said so and they would have checked a decision cannot be made at this time on the form instead of congratulations. IS this true?? Clearly, the counter officer is not familiar with the process, the security checks are initiated after the application is filed and fingerprints are taken, not after the interview lol (not pending now but they will be). Anybody had an experience like this or similar? Please post your opinions. Thanks!

Thanks!

I also had a similar interview experience in Cleveland, OH. I only had one officer asking questions. She also gave me the congratulations form, you have been recommended for Approval but she said that it will be pending the finalization of some security checks. When I asked what kind of security checks and how long will it take, she said that they were local security checks and that the turnaround should be within a couple of days or so. My interview was on March 4th. The officer said that I should receive a letter in the mail within a couple of weeks so that will be this week or the following. The next oath ceremony I believe will be in May or June.

I have no idea what local checks they're talking about. Maybe they do the extra check when you ask to change your name.

Congratulations to all who have received and/or passed their interviews!
So good to see the October thread getting active. I do think that NSC and my Seattle office are not extremely
efficient judging by the fact that I still have not heard from them after my fingerprinting appts months ago.

Hi everybody,
My timeline:
Mailed N400: Middle of December, 2007
N400 Received date: 12/26/07
Fingerprint done: 1/26/08
I filed at NSC, I wonder anyone filed around my timeframe?? Any prediction as to when my interview will be?
The I-797C, Notice of Action says "you will be notified of the date and place of your interview when you have been scheduled by the local USCIS office. You should expect to be notified within 180 days of this notice. (notice date 1/2/08)
But when I called USCIS, they told me the timeframe is now 16-18 months (same as shown on uscis.gov)
Also, I saw some people mentioned about the FBI name check, how do I find out whether my name is cleared? by calling USCIS???
Thanks for reading! I will keep you guys updated on my application, hopefully, not too long of a wait!

I called CIS today and talked to an immigration officer, she said my case would take about 6 months to process, when I asked her if my name has cleared in FBI, she said she doesn't know, and that because of the "privacy act", it doesn't show on the computer, or something like that... she said call back if i don't get any letters after 6 months... so it's not helping a lot... i sure have asked if she's sure it'll only take 6 months VS the 14-16 months showed on the official site... so how can i find out if i have pass the background check???

if it was first person to answer phone - it's not officer, she has same info as we see online, and they give generic answers.
to speak to officer - guaranteed way - is to make INFOPASS, but don't make it untill other people with PD after yours start getting interview letters.
nobody will guarantee you any date, the only set promise can be your NOA1 - how many days does it say?

I think the person I talked to on the phone was an IO, becuz I had to wait for about 15 mins to connect to one... and I believe she said she was an IO.
My NOA1 said 180 days...
Do you know how you find out whether your name check has been cleared at FBI??? After I got fingerprinted, the next time I will hear from them is a letter to the interview? is that it? or do they send some other notices in between fingerprint and interview time???
I'm waiting to get my citizenship so that I could travel to another country for more than 6 months... that's why I'm so rush to get it, or else I wouldn't care... Is there any way to find out the status besides all they say is "in process", could they give me more solid answers, eg. next step is background check, your file has sent to DO, etc... that'd help more.

1) My NOA1 said 180 days...
2) Do you know how you find out whether your name check has been cleared at FBI???

1) add 180 days to date of NOA letter - and you theoretically can start complaining to USCIS then
2) there used to be a way to call FBI, but they dont take calls anymore, but you better not bug FBI unless you know that people with PD later then yours are getting interview letters from your local office
3) yes after fingerprints you wait for interview letter
4) the only guaranteed way - is INFOPASS as i said, you can make them as many as you want, but it only makes sense to worry if your PD is coming up in your local office, until then it will be just waiting in line like everybody else.
