To counter the seriousness of my other (extremely popular) poll, I thought we should lighten things up a bit, and have a poll party around guns. Play nice, people, and don't shoot the messenger. Thank you.
A.J.
No, and I am male
I don't own a gun
I don't own a gun and they they are too restricting - this is speaking specifically to laws in NJ, it can take months for a gun permit to work its way through the bureaucracy and one often has to visit the local police multiple times to hurry it up. I'm aware of cases where permit fees have been paid but the application has not been brought to closure for over a year.
Magenta
Don't own a gun, female and too lax. I come from the UK though, remember, where gun laws are much tighter so I guess it's what I'm used to.
JODO
Don't own a gun, female, gun laws are too lax, but I would never begrudge anyone their constitutionally mandated right to own a gun. Personally, it's not just for me.
almaty
i own a gun and have since age 8.....i use it for family protection and shooting hawks....i live in illinois, a very restrictive gun state..but, i think the state is correct
LoriLawless
Nope, female, way to lax
Kez/JWolf
Dont own a Gun, Female and way to lax....

If you feel the need to bare arms.... then roll up your sleeves!!!!!!

They should be Banned.... cant see any need for people to carry guns around....

Kez
Mister Fancypants
I don't own a gun yet, but I've been weighing in on purchasing a handgun. If I buy one, I plan on getting a trigger lock. I don't see owning a handgun as a reasonable method of protection from someone invading my home, but I can see the need when traveling long distance.

I'm female, own a gun (.45 compact Springfield) , have a concealed weapons permit, and I think the rules are just about right.

jasman0717
I have had a saddle rifle for about 40 years and it was last fired about 40 years ago. May not even count as a gun any longer tongue.gif

excellent gun sister jen....good for you

I am female and have a .22 cal. Colt Woodsman for target practice. Took up trap shooting a few years ago and hope to get a shotgun in the near future.

Current laws are just about right and need to be upheld more.

Anybody here who can recommend a small handgun for the accident prone novice? Preferably one with laser guided bullets and a stain resistance windshield.

LOL...seriously? probably less than $300, with trigger lock. I'd want something that's not too bulky - thinking that at some point, I'd try to get a concealed weapons permit.
Paul Daniels
Not my bag, and I think the laws are too lax. Too much gun crime in this country.

you might be adding some to that price by the time you are done, but one gun i just love is my daewoo dh-40 .40 cal which is about that price. trigger locks are fairly inexpensive btw and they are an aftermarket item.
how big is your hand? i'm guessing you'll be able to handle a double stack magazine semi-auto, i'd recommend that you don't go for anything less than a .40 for conceal carry. a 9mm is too underpowered imo. don't go get a cannon either, remember you have to carry this thing around.
also check the cali laws regarding concealed carry - this was not the case for me in kansas, but in texas if you qualify at the course with a revolver you can only carry a revolver, but if you qualify with a semi-auto you could carry both (this was several years ago i heard this from my dad, don't know if it's changed since or not).

I am a female and own 3 guns. A .22 for squirrel and rabbit hunting, a Remington 1100 Automatic for turkey, duck and goose hunting - and I also use it for trap shooting, and a 30-06 Winchester for deer hunting. I love the fact that I can own a gun if I want to but I believe in the USA, they are too accessible to people who should not have access to weapons. I keep mine locked with trigger locks and have them under lock and key. I have two daughters, ages 9 and 7 and want them to use them as well someday if they so choose. But I think that it is my responsiblity to teach them responsibility. I have a lot of mixed feelings when it comes to "arms" and would not want to start a "revolution". I just enjoy them and hope that I can continue to enjoy them.

Thanks, Charles. good.gif I'm pretty sure my brother (the cop) was carrying around a 9mm in one of those fannypacks when he was off duty, but it's been years since I've seen him wear a fannypack. tongue.gif

don't want one, don't need one, don't see the need for them, other than for hunting for game.

Male, own a Glock .45 for defense and sport shooting, laws are too restrictive. The burden should be on the government to demonstrate why I should not be allowed to own/carry a gun, not the other way around. The focus should be placed on criminals who use guns, not on law-abiding citizens. They could start with disarming gang members...
bora bora
Female - don't have one and don't want one.

I agree that the gun laws are too lax. The last thing we need is another gun in this country...

Don't own one. I am male. The laws are too restrictive.

Outlaw weapons and only criminals will have them.

Laws will not stop those who habitually break the law. However, the likelihood of law abiding citizens being armed (versus the certainty they're not) might give a criminal pause.

LOL..well in order to get sudafed you must go to the pharmacist and request it, you have to show your id and they enter it into the computer (nationwide) to make sure that you are not buying it excessively due to the fact that people were using it to make other certain street drugs out of it. It might not be a 15 day waiting period but they are checking your background nationwide to make sure you're not making large purchases of it. If they see several purchases, you will be denied ( and who knows a possible investigation). I dont make the laws; it is what it is. If I really wanted to get a gun, I would take a short drive and buy one off the street without a background check so in my case it is much easier to get a concealed weapon than sudafed without the hassle of a background check...lol

A .45 seems a bit excessive. I've never heard a perpetrator continuously attacking someone who's firing at them with a gun, especially if you've already hit them...except in the movies.

Well, so far the majority of respondents don't have guns (72%) and a majority feel that gun laws are too lax (56%). One fifth of gun owners so far feel that gun laws are too restricting, compared to one eighth of non gun owners (if I've got my maths right). Only about half of all gun owners who have responded admit to actually liking them. The 2nd amendment is the top reason so far. Two thirds of gun owners cite protection. Two respondents own guns for other reasons, possibly to hold up a liquor store.

When I made this poll, I thought I would see a higher number for liking guns. To me anyway, a non-gun owner, that seems to be the elephant in the room (or is it a gorilla?) whenever gun threads are posted. I'd be curious to know, if anyone wishes to share, why you like guns, or conversely why you own a gun but don't like it.
