Hi guys, a few things i've been wanting to ask more info on.

1) I've ticked the box for "recieve SSN to address given" How long are we looking at until the SSN turns up, i'm getting a bit worried about how long i'm going to be out of a job for.

2) I believe my drivers license is good for about 6 months, then who or where do i go to apply for a state license?

3) can't think of anything else right now but i'm sure there was a no.3 hahahaha

Thanks guys

It takes about 2-4 weeks to receive your SSN card. However, it has been suggested that we go to the SSN office soon after the arrival of the beneficiary for faster processing.

You have to check your DMV state's office. Some requires their SSN prior to issuance, NY is one of them!

1) up to 30 days after entry, if not received by then just visit SSA and apply for one. NOTE: SSN is not a requirement of getting a job, most employers will hire and give you time to provide them with the number.

2) You got the the DMV office in the county of the state where you will live, since your profile does not indicate US City I cannot point you at the correct state DMV site. Virtually all DMV require at least SSN, and most requite Green-Card or EAD, (The I-551 stamp in your passport works as green-card)

1. They SAY it takes 2-4 weeks but for us it's been 5 already and DHS hasn't entered my husband's visa info in their system, so Social Security won't assign him a #. You need to wait about 2 weeks after point of entry and if you haven't received anything, then go to the SSA office and apply for one. Hopefully all of your info will be in everyone's systems by then.

2. Most DMV offices have their own web site. Try to find the one for your state and read what their rules are or even call them so you're ready. In CO for example, a UK driver's license is only good for 90 days and you need a social security # and visa to get a CO driver's license.

Medical exam results are good for at least 6 months.

You will be given a sealed envelope with the report to give to the consular officer at the interview.

so you reckon i could go ahead and do the medical soon yeah? even though i've got the medical package for the I129F and not the CR1 visa that we are actually applying for now
