Happy Wednesday everyone.

Grrrrrrrrrrr! I think I woke up cranky. I was looking on the web site for the baggage weight limet and it says 20 kg max
dose any one know what the weight of 20 kg in pounds is? I think my suit cases will be over. Then I look up the extra charge for that 0-5kg=E5per kg wacko.gif Im so confused!!! Has any of you ever flown with Alitalia? And then I found out there is no smoking lounge in Milan/Malpensa airport. So no cigarette for 19 hours. blink.gif AGHHHHHH!

Hope you all have a good hump day!
sarah and hicham
Thanks God it's Wednesday!

Hicham and I went to look at a new apartment yesterday and really liked it. There's a couple of things to fix up but we figure that it is definitely worth it to find a place we like that we can stay in long term. It's half a block from our current apartment which is nice.

I hope everyone has a nice day. I can't say if it's a good day yet or not because I'm not at work yet. smile.gif

hey, 20kg is 44lbs...they will USUALLY allow up to 50lbs per bag...i flew them to Toronto from Lebanon in Dec last year, i can say i REALLY didnt enjoy them at all..but thats my opinion lots of other people have liked there service. anyway i paid 25 dollars extra for my overweight bag and they can only be up to 70lbs or they wont even carry it....since then im pretty sure the sky team has up'd their overweight charge to 50 dollars a bag. hope that helps a little. you are allowed 2 suitcases at 44lbs so if u only have one heavy split it up into two bags. eta i see u say your suit cases so i guess u have 2 bags already, if possible i suggest u fill one bag as much as possible but try not to go over the 65-70lbs so u only have to pay for one extra weight bag.......sometimes they are nice and dont charge, other times they charge for 1kg over......try to get them weighed before u head to the airport, the easiest way is to get a strong guy to step on the scale and then step on the scale again with the bag and take the difference..............

My suitcases were way over the limits but I pretended that I didn't know and they just let mine go. Try it!
jessNgeorges
yep sometimes playing derrr helps lol, i tried that with air france in jan which is part of the sky team and thats when i found out they raised the fee to 50 a bag and i ended up paying 100 bucks in overweight fees because there way no way i could switch or stuff anymore into either or bag. sooooo that kinda sucks. goodluck and like i said its best to have an idea before u get to the airport so find a strong guy to weigh them...u can still play derr even if u know how much they are, but if they charge ya at least ull be prepared.

Maybe you'll be lucky and get an upgrade. First and business class allows more weight. I got upgrades both times I went to Egypt. good.gif Nothing beats first class when you're stuck in a plane for 7+ hours.

I'm not sure how I got so lucky. I didn't ask for either of my upgrades. The first time I was checking in at the Lufthansa counter at DTW and the lady said...YOU'VE got an upgrade! Maybe it was because I was traveling alone and first class had plenty of room. The second time I took my flight from DTW to Chicago, got on the flight from Chicago to Heathrow and the guy next to me told me his wife was in first class but he couldn't get a seat over there. I told him, jokingly, I'll switch with her. He brought his wife over and she asked if I would switch seats with her. Uh yeah I will! So that one was a fluke but boy did I appreciate it.

WOW that is great luck!! it would be soooooo nice to travel in comfort without paying out the butt for the business or first class fare. George has to pay another 550 for my ticket as it is because i was supposed to leave oct 15th but we extended it so there was a 200 penalty and then 350 for ticket price difference, thats better then the total 900 for a new ticket but ouch this ticket was 1600 to begin with. He went yesterday and reserved for me since its a busy time after Christmas, lots of people will be traveling so the chance of an upgrade is slim......so we will go to the airport REAL early since we cant confirm seats until check in...ughh and i reallllllly want bulk head. So im headin out Jan 12th at 745 am local time here and ill be in NY at 4pm EST. not too long from now.....im happy but sad at the same time. I cant wait to spend 6mths with my little man, he is sooooooo excited to be a big brother, i told him on Sat which was his birthday and he told everrrrryone!!

so far it looks like i will be flying to Lebanon in mid-end of july to join George on his vacation and his family will all be there and we will baptise the baby then and from there geo and i will come back to Saudi mid Aug, the ticket price is lookin like 2200 for the full trip, JFK-Beirut-Beirut-Riyadh, so not soo bad especially for the summer, and also the 10% they charge for the baby.

ok i wrote a book lol.

When I got to the counter, both my bags were over the limit and they were going to charge me a fee for each one. I took some stuff out of one of the bags and put it in the other and had only one bag overweight then.

I have flown British Airways both times I have gone to Alex. I do not think my bags were over limit and if they were they did not say. I have had people both in Alex and LAX ask me what is in both suit cases and I tell them, clothes. They look at me funny and I say well I will/was there for 2+ weeks and I am a girl LOL

I will be going back to Alex in Jan/Feb and it looks like I will have to fly Lufthansa. Has anyone flown them? If so how was it? I really liked British Airways but they do not have any flights to Alex scheduled at the moment.

By the way I sent my monthly email to Cairo and got the follwoing response:

I've flown Lufthansa and BA. I prefer Lufthansa. BA lost my luggage on my last trip. I got it returned to me but still. The thing about Lufthansa flights to Alex is that there's usually a long layover in Frankfurt. Mine was 14 hrs long.

i bought a wool coat! and even FL is feeling the freeze -- it will be getting to 50 by Friday, and that dosent usually happen until January.

My homeowner's insurance has set me up for nonrenewal since the house will be vacant. I think we will have to think about selling it as hardly any insurance companies write policies here in FL anymore.

i would be dropped *really* quick if I rented it out. My policy expires in July (so thats good) but I asked, what if the house is on the market and does not sell by July, hat happens? She indicated I would have to hunt for a dwelling policy, but back to the original issue of most companies wont write new policies here.

I flew Alitalia in July. They were ok considering they were the cheapest price around! They were late both ways but I had big wait times in Milan so I never missed my connection. I don't think I'd fly them again though only because the plane from Milan to Cairo made a funny sound in the motor. I kept waiting for it to go silent and then begin the steep descent into the ocean. lol.

Never paid attention to the weight of my bags but I think I had to pay the overcharge fee. I always have to pay that stupid fee 'cause i just pack way too much. blush.gif I could swear there was people smoking in Milan at the airport though...maybe only a section is nonsmoking? Also you HAVE to get a cappucino or some sort of expresso there. You're in Italy after all and it was the best I had ever had!!! They also have awesome chairs in the place where you wait for your flight to egypt. They're lounge chairs that you can put your feet up on and they are so nice if you have a bad back. If I could have bought on and taken it home I would have!!!

turkey and celery sticks for lunch. whoo hoo. Nice thing about lowcarbin' it is that I'm not hungry at all though. Apparently I have GERD so I have started to take prilosec. Not as nauseous as I was the past two days thank God.

Ex has not taken the kids on a weekend in over two months and I'm going crazy. Other than that I'm fine. lol

^^^^^^^^ Most European airports (and some here and elsewhere, too) have smoking areas. Frankfurt has one.

Flew British Air 4 times to Egypt and had no probs with the weight....my suitcase was the large oversize one and all BA did was put a tag on it that said "heavy"... good.gif

I haven't called DOS in a while so I figured it was time. I got a very nice woman and she said right off the bat, "ma'am I'm showing that Cairo got back the results they were waiting for as of today and have now started the Administrative Review process."

I said, "was that the last step they were waiting for?" and she said, "that is what it looks like. according to the system they are starting to review the results of his case as of today and that is the final step"

<insert holding my breath smiley here>

I"m not going to do any dancing 'cause we all know the story but at least it was quite a promising conversation! I wonder if my congressman's office actually did something to get it going again? If so he's got MY vote next election!!! kicking.gif

Where are the holiday police? I just got an inter-office email asking for $10 donations to decorate the 3rd ring of hell for Christmas. Their goal is to have it all done by December 1st.

And no, Im not forking over my hard earned money to decorate other people's cubes. Im making snowflakes out of printer paper laughing.gif
