I have another question for u, should i take my husband with me to the interview? because i have read somewhere that they take both into different place and question them separately...and being an indian discent, i m worried that they might do that if i bring my husband along with me..although he and i both would like it us to do interview together.

That generally only happens, from what I have read, where they think there is some hint of immigration fraud. If they think that, they would probably ask your Husband to come in and interview as well. It is probably not an issue at all, I don't think you should be concerned about it. Take him to the interview if you think it will be easier on you, otherwise you will be fine. I can see you are stressing about the whole thing - try to relax a bit, you will do fine.

How long have you been married? Do you have lots of proof of your ongoing relationship? You probably won't need it but it might make you feel more secure at the interview.

I have another question which is that i need to renew my passport or no...it is valid for 7 months from the interview date in April 24. Although i have decided to get new passport, i need to know if canada passport department will ask for marital change and proof of that because i have original sent to NVC. what do i say where is says "marital status" on the passport renew application?

Hi pari,

Personally I wouldn't bother, plenty of time to do that after you move, no use adding more paperwork! It only has to be valid for 6 months - as, of course, your visa for entry is good for 6 months.

My Husband's passport is only good for another 5 months, so they just gave him a 5 month visa - not a big issue.

Yes, if you are changing your name on your passport when you renew you will probably need to provide them with your marriage certificate. They don't specifically say 'you must send your marriage certificate' - but they do say you 'may' be asked for it - so it seems like a good idea to go ahead and send it when you do renew, so as not to hold up the application. Plus if you renew now without it and they ask for it - your application will just be waiting there and you will have already gone for your interview and received your visa before you can get the application going again - just seems like a bad idea in my opinion. When you do renew you will answer 'marital status' as married.

Here is some additional info that will help:

All of your documentation, including your passport, should be issued under the same name. If you have changed the name on your other identification documents, your passport should reflect the same name. Applicants who have changed their names cannot have a passport issued in their new name through the Simplified Passport Renewal Process.

You may be requested to submit your marriage certificate in support of your request to have your passport issued in your married surname.

Just an additional note - my understanding is they will issue your visa in the name that appears on your passport. Not a big deal just be sure to carry your marriage certificate around with you when you go to apply for your SSN etc.

I was wondering too because I knew your case was completed a few days before my husband's so I was hoping that he'd be getting an interview around the same time as yours. I had actually tried calling today but the lines were busy and when I got home from work today the letter was here.

I'm actually in Baltimore and my husband lives in Quebec about 30 minutes from Montreal. I think i'm more nervous about the interview than he is and I'm the US citizen.

My interview is scheduled in the morning at 8:00 and I will need to take my baby with me. I want to avoid a long wait in the morning cold outside the consulate. I wonder if it will be ok if I choose to arrive a hour or so after 8:00? Also, did anyone see people allowed to bring basic baby staff into the consulate?

Hi Trailmix, I forgot to let you know when I sent my DS230, it was Mar 15th. Will let you know when case is finally complete, still waiting to hear if they found my birth certificate and they receive the info missing for I-864. Enjoy your trip!

Sorry for the lack of updates! Our interview was originaly scheduled for March 27th. However, Due to the birth of our daughter, we've rescheduled to May 7th.

I would like to update my timeline on the list but a question for everyone first....

Pck 3 left NVC 2007-11-21 and was completed and returned 2007-11-26 (so have things left NVC?)
but then on Jan 11 our lawyer called to tell me that our paperwork was on hold until they (not sure if this refers to NVC or the consulate) received a "pasada judicial" (police cert) from Colombia. (I lived there for 6 yrs.)

I had to fly to toronto to deal with this (jan 28) and the colombian consolate said it would take 3 months for them to send the paperwork to bogota and then recieve it back... (apparently there is nothing I can do to track it during these 3 months, just wait...)

I am just looking at the timelines and trying to guesstimate a time frame for the interview. I am guessing September. Am I in the ballpark? Any thoughts?

(No, our lawyer has not been particularly helpful and has little empathy or patience so I actually don't like talking to her plus i am sure she is going chg me for every second of her time and we can't afford that!!)

According to my limited research, there are only 4, count 'em, 4 California applications older than mine. I don't know if this is good news or bad news. But, it feels like I have been sitting on this list as 'pending' forfuknever.

Updated your DS-230 date Linda, any word on whether they have found your document yet? Congratulations Davin and Rachel! MGW, I think September or October is realistic. Once you get the certificate and submit it, it might take them a week or two to actually complete your case and get it to Montreal.

Hi Trailmix, they had my right "parental" birth certificate but no one has bothered to tell the NVC that British Columbia has new parental birth certificate as of Jan 2/08 instead of the long form they are used to. I spoke to the supervisor there, gave her the website from B.C. vital statistics that showed all the information with the effective date, what it is supposed to look like etc. (She said the Embassy's are always very good at keeping the NVC updated on what is required....yeah right lol) She was going to look into it. That was 1 1/2 weeks ago. I called Tuesday, she was still waiting to hear back from the reviewers and called again last night and she was still waiting and was told to call back again Tuesday. Just my luck to be the first person from B.C. to submit the new "parental" birth certificate!!!!

They are very good at keeping them updated - except they aren't!? Hope they finish 'reviewing' it soon!

hello to everyone.
I need your kind advice on what to bring to the interview; my interview is on april 24:

I have sent all the original civil documents with DS-230 so on my appointment letter package, it says "Yes/Reviewed/Complete" besides all the originals and forms that are needed.

now my question is that what to bring to interview? here is what I have so far,

- Appointment letter
- valid passport
- medical envelop with x-ray envelope
- Xpresspost envelope
- pics of us together, some b-cards, and online msn chat printouts with date and time.
- pics of me 2" by 2"


now, my question is:
We had my husband's father as a co-sponsor since my husband's income was not sufficient. ( note: in appointment package..it says "yes/cpmlete/reviewd" beside the I-864 form) Now for this, do I need to bring anything particular that they might ask to see regarding this financial thing? or may be they will ask for his 2007 tax return? (which he has not filed yet?)..I am so confused!! please help..

Can you please update my stuff. The approximate dates are in my signature. I've been stuck in RFE hell for a bit and hoping to be case complete within the next two weeks. Fingers crossed

Hi Pari,

They will probably ask for the 2007 return as your interview is after the middle of April. Since he hasn't filed it yet, maybe he can do that now? You don't need to bring the IRS transcript, however you will need his actual tax return and the documents that support the figures, like the W2's etc.

I don't know which returns you have already submitted to NVC, if you only submitted the 2006 return, they may also ask for a copy of 2005. (Even though you have a co-sponsor you may want to have your Husband's 2007 return and 2005 return with you as well).
