You filed to remove conditions?
We are going to Brazil in 1.5 months and no word on the 10yr card. His GC is now expired.
What do we bring to travel? The expired card and the NOA for the I-751?

I don't believe you can travel on an expired GC.

You should be able to use the expired green card along with the NOA for the I-751 that extends your status as a permanent resident for one more year. That is supposed to be sufficient for travel.

I travelled with an expired GC before receiving the 10-yr GC, and all I had to show was my expired GC and the NOA for the I-751.

Thanks, that's what I thought.
OK we are lucky enough to have received the NOA. I hear a lot of people are still waiting to get an NOA. I wonder what those people have to do?

I would love to know! I have not received an NOA only an appointment letter for my biometrics which I've been to already now. I checked my status online in the hopes that something would come out over there but nothing so far. So what happens to my status as an employee, forget about travel?! helpsmilie.gif

Employment: If you have filed for removal of condition, you are not out of status and you are authorized to work, until your case is adjucated. It is, of course, good to have some proof of your filing, like a USPS confirmation of delivery, a cashed check, or, best, the NOA from the USCIS. Regardless of which proof you have, your current employer is not only not obliged to check your continued authorization to work, but is prohibited from doing so (if not other federal laws force him to do that like compliance with export control laws etc.).

Travel: Even here is the filing itself principally enough, but lack of proof of filing is impractical, because the officer at the border is supposed to check you. I travelled with my NOA and spend a long time at the port of entry, but had no real difficulty to enter the US.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be confusing - I meant that I did receive an NOA but it was only for a biometrics appointment. Nothing in it stated I had the right to employment etc or extension of my status for 1 year, contrary to what the VJ guide said. My card expires in the next couple of weeks! Would this NOA be enough was my question. Thanks for the answer above, Peter.

My husband traveled out of the country twice on his expired greencard and his NOA1 (it states on the letter that it is for work and travel). No problems at all.

If you didn't have the NOA1 in time, you would go to your local office and get your passport stamped.
