Ok, my husband's ss card came and I was wondering how long does it take for it to be reported to the credit bureaus.
I tried to open up a joint savings account and it says that they couldn't verify his credit history.
Isn't that strange?
Should we wait a few weeks?

Anyone else with same experience?

I wanted to get him a credit card so he can start building his credit.

I don't know how long it takes them.... but it's weird not being able to open a savings/checking account if he already has the SSN. I actually opened a joint account w/Bren without having mine. Weird.

It does seem odd. I thought bank accounts and savings account had nothing to do with your credit score/history. I would try to speak to another officer at the bank or try another bank.

My husband has had his SSCard since July. I tried to request a free credit report for him, but it says that he has no credit history. I think a SSN is necessary to start a history, but it doesn't create a history. My hubby has been an authorized user on my credit card for over a year (while he was still in his country), but no history. I'm guessing either he needs to be upgraded responsible party (I was wainting until he got a job...I though it would be a bad idea to have a credit card with no employer) , or I need to check the other two bureaus.

Not sure if this has anything to do with what happened, but some businesses use the SSA High Group list to see if SSNs are valid.

Check the current SSA High Group list and see if his number is there or has an * next to the number. Might be that the bank is using old list or his number isn't on the current list.

They can't verify credit history because he doesn't have any, at least not under his SSN.
