My wife (China) applied for AP on 9/19. We don't even so much as have our receipt yet. But now, the online USCIS says that the EAD card should be ready in 30 days. Does EAD allow you to travel? My wife has a close relative about to die of cancer so we asked our congressman to help. I sent a medical statement with translation and the usual online forms from the congressman's website.

Any advice is appreciated!

EAD (work authorization) does not allow for travel... I'd be willing to bet that if your Rep gets involved, you'll get your AP soon... (AP being advance parole, which would allow for at least one re-entry back in to the US.)

If you have a family emergency you can make an infopass appointment at your local office and ask for emergency AP you will need to evidence of the emergency, like a fax from the doctor or hospital... they can issue the AP the same day...
