Besides Hiv positive what would disqualify a person from passing Med clearance? I am worried because my husband gets typhoid and malaria from time to time. Thanks

Hi Efia, one could be disqualife if she/he is in hard drugs or HIV postive.
Good luck & Lord blessing.

Here is a list of health reasons why someone would be denied a visa:

(1) having a communicable disease of public health significance (HIV/AIDS)

(2) having a mental or physical disorder and behavior associated with the disorder that may pose, or has posed, a threat to the property, safety, or welfare of the alien or others

(3) have had a physical or mental disorder and a history of behavior associated with the disorder, which behavior has posed a threat to the property, safety, or welfare of the alien or others and which behavior is likely to recur or to lead to other harmful behavior

(4) drug abusers and addicts

Question:
If there is a serious health problem, is the person informed by the clinic, or do they find out at the interview?

If they find out at the interview, how are they told?

I think it will probably happen at the inteview since the results are sealed and sent directly to the embassy or the beneficiary goes back to pick up the results in a sealed envelope. Unless the doctor/nurse tells it will come out in the interview.

And of course, that's a maybe. The last case I read of that had a medical denial wasn't told what the medical problem was and of course had to push and fight to try to find out what happened. It turned out to be a false positive on an HIV test, but if they hadn't kept fighting they would have never known and not even had a chance to be here with their SO......not to mention thinking they had HIV when they didn't!

A member here whose fiance had a contagious disease was told by the embassy to get it treated by the panel physician and after the treatment was completed to come back for the next step in the process.

Typhoid and Malaria , if in an acute stage have to be treated before the embassy will proceed. Having bouts with it off and on is not
a concern and not grounds for denial.
Usually the embassy will inform the applicant that there is a health problem but some doctors do also, it is embassy specific.

Thank you all. Im relaying all this to my husband. When i mention certain places like the names of the clinics, he is amazed on how I know so much even though Im not there. smile.gif

Assuming they give you the results, can you go to the embassy as soon as you get them to hand them in? Or do you have to wait for your scheduled interview date?

This is good to know. Malaria is so common there it would be really crazy if they denied you for having it. I even got malaria when I was there!

So basically my fiance should not say he has already been issued an interview date because they may not let him go in to hand in the medicals b4 then?

Unless they tell you something different at the medical exam the results are just taken with you on the day of the interview along with all the other documentation (I-134, proof of existing relationship etc etc).

Right Zee, your fiance will bring the medical exam results to the embassy, in the sealed envelope, the day of the interview. I don't at all believe you could bring them before the interview. I think my husband picked up his exam from the akai house, a couple weeks before the interview.

Wow....was hoping my fiance would be able to get in there before his interview, so that he could try to get his interview pushed up. I know there were some missing documents in the packets they gave him...maybe he can use that as an excuse to get in there early....? What do u guys think?

If you want to move up your interview date just make sure you have everything complete. And then go to the embassy and tell them that you have everything completed and see if it can get pushed up but they are not going to take the documents from you (probably because they know they would lose them). They may ask to see the completed forms, etc, but they will not actually take the documents from you until the actual interview.
