I was reading that all items brought to the interview in Rio need to be translated from Portuguese to English. This includes birth certificates and police forms? Or only letters and emails? It is getting closer and do not want to mess things up now....rsrsr

Nothing needs to be translated from Portuguese to English, only if you have docuements in a 3rd language you'll need to translate.

I do advise to translate the Birth Certificate 'cus it will be needed for AOS, later down the road. good.gif Then you'll need a copy of the original and the translation (it can be a copy of the official translation, since they must be an official one and tend to cost quite a bit of money). Doing it in Brazil will be cheaper and easier than in US.

Laura is right. Only translate if it's in a third language (other than portuguese or english). As for the BC translation to english I got lucky cuz I got it done for free here with the brazilian liaison at the military base, but if you can get it done in Brazil just do it.

We had my husband's BC translated in Brazil too. I found a guy in the phone book (in Manaus) and he translated it in about 15-20 minutes and only charged me R$30.

Luis&Laura
The person who did it for me in Rio charged me R$60 for it.

I was thinking about doing that - but didn't want to take the risk. However, many people have translated their own (or their spouses) BCs and had no problems.
