ED*Riza,

The short answer is YES (you will need to apply for EAD, unless you want to wait until you have a GC in hand) - applying for a SS-card will not allow you to work. Only two things will allow work for a K-1 petitioner 1) EAD 2) Green Card.

Why not apply for SSN now? You don't have to wait till you're married. In fact, it is easier to get SSN at least 2 weeks upon your entry to US because if the I-94 is close to expiration, they won't assign a number to you until you got EAD or GC. After marriage, you can then have your name changed in your SSN.

EAD will allow you to work while waiting for your GC.

Just remember that you will need to file for adjustment of status to qualify for EAD. File I-485 EAD and AP in one package to Chicago.

If you wish to work you will need a employment authorisation document to satisfy the I-9 requirements.

Only if you want to work prior to receiving the GC

what if my fiancee already has a SS card. What does he do in this case? He use to live here 2 yrs ago and had one. Does he get a replacement SS card? My fiancee is the beneficiary.

When you AOS you apply for the EAD at the same time. The cost is included...why not do it???? or am I wrong?
