Did you change your name when you got married? If so, which option did you choose?

Claudeth changed her name. It was lots of red tape to get her a new passport though but we had to, her old one was expiring.

LOL That was my reasoning too! Mine hyphenated would have been 13 letters long, just his name is 5. I'm a lazy lazy person LOL

But if we had started off married life living in Canada, I would have hyphenated our two last names for professional reasons. Since no-one in the US knew me by my old name, I just switched to the new name and started fresh. smile.gif

I changed my name following how we traditionally do it in the Philippines.

Old Middle name is changed to my old last name
Last name is my husband's last name

I haven't change my name yet but in all the forms my husband filled like I have.

My name is Dilirene Asprilla Carabali like it says in my pasport and colombian I.D ,but in all the forms we filled it appears Like Dilirene Asprilla Rearden so in that case it means I keep my first name and middle name and change my last name for my husband's ,but I think in when I move to live to U.S I will Kept Existing First Name and Existing Middle Name, Hyphenated Existing Last Name With Husband's Last Name. whistling.gif The question is .It is my husband going to agree with it ?

I used my maiden name on all USCIS forms because it would've taken longer if I had to wait to change my name first and then file. Now that my husband is here I have started the process and it is a pain in the butt. Oh well, his is shorter, better known than mine so spelling is not a hassle at all, plus if we have family it'll be easier for paperwork issues.

Didn't change mine.

I didn't change my name either. I like it cause its short & has a nice meaning in Polish (I'm the USC). The main reason was that I have my degree with maiden name on it, and then if I ever change jobs, there will be a mess trying to locate & confirm my degree with a new name, yadda yadda.

I do not like the hyphenated name deal cause it seems like a woman cant make up her mind. Like she's trying to keep her identity, but show she's married to. Pick one or the other, no use in labeleing every name you got. That's my take on it.

Everyone I tell that I didn't switch my last name ask me if I'm some type of feminist wacko.gif and I'm totally not.

I had to change my last name thinking it has some kind of affect as far as proving bona fide marriage on my I-130 petition to my husband. I wanted to do the hyphenated last name with my maiden last name, but it's too late now.

I changed my last name.
We mailed off the AOS paperwork two days after the wedding, so I used my maiden name there - but days later I changed it at the DMV and then the SSA.

Although my degree has my maiden name I still wanted to change it. I had that name for 25 years and I still like it. I just wanted to have the same surname as my husband....although it is longer.

jayzar
kept my First name (3 names a total of 17 letter)
kept my middle name (12 letters)
and
used hyphen, my last name first + his last name ( 5+7=12)

for a total of: ohmy.gif 41 letters! hahaha

I as used in writing my long name since in toddler school, and having to write it a little longer now..

i love the hyphen thing. But before i can use it, hubby and i discussed over it for like a month, then finally have my passport with the hyphen.

My father-in-law can't believe how did my husband let me do that! laughing.gif

I changed my last name, for several reasons, being the main one I already had a hard time spelling in Brazil, I'd have a worse time spelling here every time.
I don't have a middle name, so I can't vote.

I finally changed my name last week. I've kept my first and middle names, but I've hyphenated my last name (existing last name + the boy's last name). However, my existing last name is not my maiden name, but my last name from my former marriage. I've done this because no one in my line of work has ever known me by my maiden name, and I've built up a reputation with my old last name.

The boy said he doesn't care what I call myself, as long as I keep making him lunch. blush.gif
MissStacey
I haven't changed my name.
Sister Fracas
Changed my last name only (no-hyphenation) on everything and then filed I-130

I havent changed my name yet because we're screwing around with AOS and its too complicated right now. But once I do Ill keep my first and middle name and replace my maiden name with my husband's surname. Ill be glad to be rid of the maiden name (Belcher), but now Im all E's L's and A's Gabrielle Olivia Ellaoui. Anyone want to buy a vowel? LOL
Olivia*
Not yet.
Eresh
I changed my last name to my husbands.
Caladan
Didn't change, with the result now that I answer to about four different names: my last name, his last name, and hyphenated each way.

~Nini~
Original first name
My maiden name is now my new middle name
Took Bee's last name

He didn't care which way I did it, though I'm sure he likes hearing people call me "missus Bee" smile.gif And admittedly enough, my new name has a really nice sound to it, even though it's longer than my maiden name!
MarieAnastasia
I hypenated my maiden name to my married name because it made paper work easier and I love my maiden name (it's not a feminist thing either!!) Hubby didn't care and why should he......I'm not upset that he didn't take my last name whistling.gif

I haven't changed it yet - will head down to the SS office the day before Thanksgiving(my job gives us the day off and it doesn't count as a vacation day - wanna save those so I can go see my hubby in May... smile.gif

My wife is Chinese and traditionally Chinese women keep their name when they marry. I applied for our marriage license 17 days before she arrived in this country so it was something we had to discuss before she arrived. She had assumed she would have to change her name to mine if she married me, but decided to keep her own name when she found out they would allow her to do that. Her family name is easier for English speaking people to pronounce than mine is anyway.

As soon as i got back from Egypt in April 2005, I started making changes to my Driver's license and Soc. Sec. card. I love my husband and very proud of him. I know that the the baby will have an ankle bracelet on but I feel much better that me and the baby will have the same last name. ~Keri
