I got several copies of my marriage certificate and went everywhere in person - to the Social Security office, my bank, etc. That was enough proof for the name change. The only thing I didn't do was my passport.

We just filed Claudeth's AOS with her married name. Getting her Filipino passport renewed was an interesting activity

We also had to wait to get something official from the USCIS to change her name on the SSN so was able to do that when the EAD arrived.

I started at the SSA office, took my marriage certificate and I got the new card in 2 weeks.
Then I went to the DMV and can't change it until my husband has his SS # since they don't accept foreign marriage certificates. So that's still pending.
Currently I'm calling my utilitiy companies, bank, credit card companies and any others I can think of to see what they need. Some change my info right over the phone while others, like my bank, just want a written statement with a copy of the marriage certificate to have it changed.
It's a lot of work!

Got married in Puerto Rico, where we don't change names, so I kept my name.

Only 2 things that don't have my married name: green card (which yup, has NOT arrived) and bank account. Everything else: SSN, Washington ID, lease, is under married name. I wonder how the heck one goes about changing to married name in green card..... wisdom, anyone?

I got married a week after I moved to the US and applied for everything in my married name immediately thereafter. Therefore, I don't have to worry about changing my name.

WTF?!?!? It has a $370 filing fee.... woohoo.... guess not happening. Will change when I remove conditions or later. Thanks for the info anyways!!!
p.s. Just double-checked the instructions of the form and I cannot even try before removing conditions, so I guess that's that

No. It's a personal choice.

Me and Marivic were married in Manila in March and she has changed everything there to my last name including her passport and postal ID so it will be no problem here since visa was filed for in that name

I started the change of name process 9 months after I got married since I wanted to get the whole immigration thing over with first. All I did was start at the SSA office to change my SS and then called all other places to find out what they need so they could change my name.

I'm the USC and I changed my name at the DMV (new DL) and then at the SSA. I used these forms of ID (along with the marriage certificate) to change my credit cards, employment info, insurance, etc and etc.

Right after my marriage here in US I started using my spouse surname on sending mails and for applications .I always bring along with me our marriage certificate, birth certificate, and passport for further verifications. I am divorce so I bring also my divorce decree cert. . So whenever I go to apply forms I always check my stuffs if its complete. I made a photo copy of everything and put it in my bag where ever I go for convenience. I still have my married name before in my passport, but having all those documents can easily used my current married name.I still have no I.D yet indicating my current married name, but credit cards and ATMs can use for verification.Miles
