No I think this is an un-official poll and liz is looking for reassurance that other people have ghetto b/c's like hers.

Should have done a poll Liz!

Edit: umm no, sure, ahh doesn't look bad at all unsure.gif
liz_legend 'n Ol
a poll?!

for all the world to see my BC??
no thank you!!

I don't want everyone looking in my drawers! just you canadians!

yes

With your interview?

I think as long as it's an official birth certificate and it's got the seal then you're fine. If you're worried you can get another one I guess. Haven't you already sent it with your other immigration papers?
liz_legend 'n Ol
I didn't have to send my BC with the K1 petition.

I just have to have it for the interview.

It's got a seal
so I guess i'm ok

I've already asked Oman (the country I was born in) about getting one months ago and it's way complicated.... and it didn't seem worth all the hoops to go through to get another birth certificate when I already have the one my parents were given 23 years ago!
sarah and hicham
I think it will be fine. I think having the original is a good thing. I've never seen one like that!

Oh! I thought you were just throwing that out there for fun. I forgot they haven't seen yours yet, that you have to take it to the interview! Oh for that it looks just dandy to me!

Here's the email the guy sent me about how I go about getting a replacement

lizelle you need to first send the scanned copy to the Royal Oman Police and ask for a
new duplicate certificate.then send it to Ministry of Ext affairs of oman and
get it attested with a $5rials stamp then spend $4rials and get it attested
by the indian embassy in Muscat, Oman, then it will become a valid document.
liz_legend 'n Ol
You know what Oliver had to do to get another birth certificate?

He went on a website, filled out some personal info, paid a flat fee, and got it in the mail 2 weeks

ya.. mine: not that easy!

My turn to reassure you! My father in law's birth certificate looked pretty similar to that as well. Very ghetto, but just like yours, it had the seal. That's all that matters, I'm pretty sure. NVC accepted his already, so if is passed, I'm sure yours is fine too.
Don't sweat it! good.gif

Birth, Marriage, and Death Certificates

Births, marrriages, and deaths are registered in the Canadian provinces or territory in which they took place. Though each province or territory issues its own certificates for these events, there are a few basic formats for them across Canada:
  • The "small" or "short form" certificate is a computer-printed, limited extract of information from provincial records. It is a wallet-sized card, 9.5 x 6.4 cm or 2.5 x 3.75in (Speciman from British Columbia). Short-form or small certificates are not acceptable for visa purposes because they do not contain enough identification information, such as parents' names.
  • The "large" or "full-size" certificate is a computer-printed extract of information from provincial records. It is printed on currency-style paper stock, 21.6 x 17.8 cm or 7 x 8.25 in., with an intaglio border (Speciman from British Columbia).

That pertains to Canadian born individuals

I was born in Oman.. but I did go to that link and change it for Oman and got :

Birth Certificates

Available. Birth certificates are available after 1979 to all persons and prior to that date to persons born in the American Mission Hospital at Matrah.

Liz, I'm sure it's fine since it's got all the relevant info. If you think that's bad, you should see my Ontario long form BC. My parents filled it in by hand (guess they did that back then, do they still?) and my mom made a ton of mistakes including her last name... (wtf?), scratched them out and wrote in the correct info. It's got an official seal on it though so it was fine. biggrin.gif

If you think mine is bad, my friend's is even worse. His dad filled it out drunk and accidentally marked him down as a female and then crossed that out and put down male. You can barely read the handwriting!

Oh yeah that's true haha, forgot about the long form. My Mom lied about her age on some or all of our birth certificates - I think my Grandmother did too tongue_ss.gif

Ghetto? You mean Roxbury chic, don't you? laughing.gif Unless of course your b/c was actually printed by the Geto Boys, in which case I'd say nothing. laughing.gif

Your b/c will be fine. I've seen much, much worse (they were filled out by the doctor so you can imagine what the handwriting is like) and many people like my mom and dad don't even have one.

I think you're good to go on November 2.

BTW, do they even grow muscat grapes in Oman? Just curious (and hungry).

liz_legend 'n Ol
Never heard of Muscat grapes =)

But they do grow dates in Oman!!

Which ones, I like the orangey-yellow ones (Barhi) but some people like the medjool or Zahidi but I like the Barhi in the rutab state thank you very much. How 'bout you? Do tell...

liz_legend 'n Ol
I should have specified that I neved did like dates.. but my mom did

I'll ask her tonight!
IR5FORMUMSIE
Actually I think it is written as the rutabun state (fully ripened state). Sorry nunation gives me fits.

*Glad that a lack of knowledge of the conventions of grammatical correctness have never kept anyone from writing English good* jest.gif
Len_and_Bren
You'll be fine with your Roxbury-chic document sister, don't sweat it -- had it been a problem, they would have said something when you sent in your I-129 right? So relax babeeeee good.gif
SonoranSongbird
My fiance's birth certificate is hand written.

Mine had a space for "father's regular profession" but not for mother's.

Anyhoo, I'm sure they are aware that every state/province/country has its own form.
