THis may be a bit off-topic, but please answer if you can.

My entered the US on CR1 visa in July 07, and then went back to Mumbai. Her social security card was supposed to be issued with the green card, but it never was. Now I am in Australia, long-term, on business, and she is in Mumbai.

The thing is, I really need her SSN so I can process our taxes. Is it possible to apply for this from Mumbai? The consulate web site is vague on the subject, and they do not answer their phone or return my emails. Does anyone know if this is possible? We will not be going back to the US until July 2008 at the earliest.

Many thanks

Submit a W-7 for ITIN in lieu of SSN to file your taxes.

I would contact the VARO in Manila, since if the consulate in India does accept the application it would probably forward the application there.
