It is getting out of hand...all of it...hahaha.

I was contemplating starting and off off topic thread for Canada...anew.

This thread and the vent thread are now officially warped beyond, uhm, repair.

Do what you will people...especially you morning coffee people who are here saying hi and all that, and I am although up and about and doing stuff, not conscious before double digits really.

As for a recipe thread, please would someone start it besides me?
I cannot be out buying flour and shtuff right now, as I am about to hit another whirlwind.
I would love them for near future reference though...and I can add some later.

Why why why do people call their SO's the hubby, the wife, the girlfriend, the boyfriend....??
The is inappropriate for anyone you actually like...let along supposedly love.

It is disrespectful and totally unconscious for the most part I'm sure.
It bugs me.

Yeah yeah, I do need to make my yummy cuppa-coffee...

I SOOOOO COMPLETELY AGREE!!!!!!!! It's like the person is no longer a person, but an object.. bothered me for SOOO long.. Yes, I think they do.

I really like wikipedia and have added this and that at times, however! As much as I think that wikipedia is rather amazing in that it's a lovely group effort that seems to work quite well, it's a bit of a worry that people think it is the gospel of knowledge.

I was speaking to a woman here in Calgary one day, from Heritage Park (I had called them to ask about some information on their website that I knew to be wrong - yes I know that sounds pretentious, but in context it wasn't - but anyhoo).

The woman said to me " But on Wikipedia it says....". Well Wikipedia was wrong!! I said - "you do know that wikipedia can be edited by ANYONE". Anyway, needless to say, I don't think she really got it.

Another person I know, her boyfriend would not believe that anyone could edit so she went in to this page on this little town and put all these personal references in to prove it.

There we go, a little rant about the limitations of wikipedia.

I agree. I've heard it all (ball and chain, battle axe, bird poo in my bird bath laughing.gif , you name it). I realize it's supposed to be a term of endearment but unless you are close to the person with whom you are conversing, it's uncouth and inappropriate and plain disrespectful. I think that it is OK to use your SO's proper name, but condescending crap (prom queen, Hercules, Mr. Viagara) is not. This only applies to polite company. Please don't get me started on the whole familiarity breeds contempt bit. I'd go on but I'm starting to get a bit tense, and that's not a good thing. laughing.gif

Quick question, bread maker or old skool? One is much easier and the other is a much better way to relieve one's tension, what sayeth you?

One more thing, Google don't be messing with my Wikipedia.

Hehehe, my fiance HATES that stereotype!

I hate that "the" crap too. Especially "the mrs." Gaaaaahhhh!! Granted, I think most people only use it when being facetious. If it is obviously a bit of a pisstake, it doesn't bother me.

Bird poo in my bird bath --- hehe, that's a new one for me. A friend of mine is a birder. I'm going to have to tell him about that one!

IR5, are you asking about buying a bread maker or whether to use one the next time you make bread? If the former, I say go for the bread maker. As you said, it is easier. Doesn't mean you can't bake bread the old fashioned way on occasion if you have time and want to blow off some steam by baking.

On a related note, should I register for wedding gifts? I and my fiance are both middle aged home owners combining two households, not young people starting out our adult lives from scratch, but there are some things I wouldn't mind getting for the house that I don't already have (like a bread maker, coffee machine, and waffle iron --- things I don't use now because it is only me --- and more sheets and towels for the guest room and dishwasher safe dishes with service for 8).

I had a bread machine way back in the 90s.
The difference?
Well the machine is: pour shtuff in and go away for 4-5 hours.
Tiny squishy loaf ready.
Baking your own bread from dough you are cultivating lovingly from scratch, i.e. sourdough yummm, well, that is an art and a craft. Not for the feint of heart...a skill to be proud of.
I am not allowing myself to learn nor bake bread.
It is my weakness.
What? Superman had kryptonite and I have baguettes!

okay guys, what should I do?
Some Chinese lady keeps calling my house, she doesn't speak English. She's called like 5 times now, all afternoon. An hour will go by, she'll call again. Half an hour more, then again. I feel so bad cause I can't help her.

<---is Chinese, speaks Cantonese.

I totally used to do the fake accent at work. Not because it was funny, but because I used to get customers who thought I didn't speak English or would ask me "OMG WHAR U LERN GUD ENGRISH".

...okay, I also watch a lot of Russell Peters. laughing.gif

Shame on you, it could be worse, you could be watching Shaun Majumder. laughing.gif laughing.gif laughing.gif
