so hubby told me last week that on Wednesdays at work they have to stay a little longer because they are going to have this class.....

They have been having this little class during the meetings on Wednesday mornings but I guess the boss didn't like that they were essentially getting paid to take this class

My vent is that a company I applied to sends me through three interviews, then the VP tells me he wants me to speak with the guy who's leaving the position and then I find out today that someone else also applying for the same position (there were 2 roles to be filled) is now also competing for MY position!
Sorry if that makes not much sense. I find out their decision Thursday. I just am irked because the sales manager was really wanting to hire me but the VP is the guy that I'd be working under and it's now turned into a coin flip between me and some other person.

Vent on:
GRRRR. I'm home for the next two days. Dr. says I can't go back to work til Friday. This darn asthma is about to kick my hiney! We are doing state standardised testing this week...I NEED to be at work. Of course he did give me an option...he said I could "teach" from my hospital bed. It's so hard to get caught up when missing more than one day. Not sure what all brought it on but it culminated with a bad asthma attack on Monday night - hence the two days off. I guess this explains why I've felt like crud for the last couple weeks.
Vent off.

Dear Marylin, Brown Eyes and KarenCee,
I'm sorry to hear, mostly about your health KC.
Men can cook and/or learn and they need to be aware that they need to extend that to their partners too! Hmph!!!
I was so spoilt before meeting my current, non-cooking partner. All the men in my life love(d) to cook and made elaborate meals.
My man now, makes a wicked omelet, and that is about it.
Well, so....we go out a lot. Hahaha.
Oh wait, he has learnt how to cook (bake) chicken...from me!
Rocket science, I tell ya!!!
I, have gotten caught up in this kind of miscommunications as well...ya think that job is cinched and then....grrrr.
What the helll!!!
I hope you get BE.
Asthma is nothing to take lightly in this day and age.
Pollution being up and up....poor you KC.
Let's get more SUVs on the road to help. Grrrrr....ahem.
I hope you pull through this quickly and can get your strength back.
Do not worry so much about external things and concentrate on internal...like
resting, destressing and healing.

argh, so I sold something on Ebay and mailed it off last week and they got the package on Monday...
the buyer payed through paypal the same day the auction ended but Paypal put the money on hold.. it said it would hold it for 21 days or until the package was confirmed delivered or if the buyer left me positive feedback on Ebay...
well, when I mailed off the package I posted the tracking number on Paypal like they asked so when I found out the got that package delivered on Monday I went to check Paypal and the money was still on hold and then I clicked on this link I hadn't really noticed before, where it says it fine print that once it is delivered it can take up to 3 days to confirm the delivery

WTH??? so the person has had the item since Monday but here I still am with no money... we were needing that money to pay for hubby's classes... they need to be payed ASAP...
I would have saved up money for the classes but we found out too late that his work will only pay for the classes and books after the semester is over.. I guess that is good... that money can pay for his winter classes...

this is what it says on Paypal
QUOTE
Why are my payments being held?Payment holds for eBay items are an effort to increase marketplace safety. We hold payments when we suspect a transaction may be risky. Here are the most common instances in which an eBay item payment may be held:
* You have been an eBay member for less than 6 months, and you sell an item for more than $100
* You have an eBay feedback score of less than 100, and you sell an item for more than $100 * You have a buyer dissatisfaction percentage* greater than 5%
* You have an average DSR of less than 4.5
* You have received fewer than 20 Detailed Seller Ratings in the last 12 months
* You are listing your item in a high-risk category such as gift certificates, video games, cell phones, computers, or consumer electronics.
When will PayPal release the hold?Your funds will be released when one of the following occurs:
* The buyer leaves you positive feedback
* 3 days pass after proof the item was delivered**
(why the heck do they need to wait 3 days???
) * 21 days pass without a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal filed on the transaction

I don't get why he would allow someone like that back in his life, but it makes me uncomfortable.

All the old diddies in my hometown on PEI all crash wedding ceremonies.. they don't even dress up - just sneak in the back rows just to 'make fun' of what everyone is wearing and so they can phone their friends when they get home and tell them how "ugly" the bride was

Okay, so hubby has been laid off for 5 weeks. We have yet to see an unemployment check, although he has been told that he will be receiving $250 a week when he gets it. Today, he was called by a placement agency offering him a job as a carpenter's assistant. He was excited just because it was a job (even though he is way overqualified for the job) and took the job without really thinking about it. He is supposed to start tomorrow. Well, now here is the problem. The salary is $10 an hour and the job is an hour away from home. Soooooo ..... after taxes, gas money and paying for full time daycare (he has been watching the baby most days), we estimated that he will get maybe $40 to $80 a week (not exactly sure how much taxes will be deducted). And right now, Declan is covered under Medicaid because they have a special program for 0-1 where the income requirements are a bit higher and we actually qualify with only one income. However, as soon as hubby works, his gross monthly salary would put us over the limit and Declan would lose Medicaid. So, I would have to add him to my health plan at work, which costs 200-300 a month for Declan. We can afford that when hubby has a better paying job, but that is near impossible with a $10 an hour job. The staffing agency anticipates jobs in the near future for carpenters and hubby really doesn't want to tick off the staffing agency by refusing this job he already committed to, but we also cannot see how it is feasible to take it (of course, it took us a little while tonight to remember the medical insurance piece, really wishing he had remembered that earlier before he said okay to the job). Tomorrow he is going to drive the hour to the job site and explain his dilemna to the guy and then also explain to the staffing agency, but we are really worried this will screw him with the agency. We just can't see a better way.
brown_eyes
Sep 10 2008, 11:37 PM
^autumnchik is that the only staffing agency that can help your husband find a job? Is it a temp position or permanent? I think recruiters are probably used to people changing their minds -- they have the advantage of working from a large pool of prospective candidates so I don't think he'd be in too awful of a position if he was honest with them. After all, you need to have a job worth your while so you two can live.
Right now I have a staffing agency pretty much on my case daily about me making a decision about a job that I am not 100% sure about. I know I could take the job but I want to be sure about another offer I am waiting for. Anyhow, my point is that you really have to look out for yourself first -- even if you are working with a recruiter. I hope that makes sense.

Sep 11 2008, 06:05 AM
Unfortunately temp agencies always pay pretty low I have found. They go to the temp agency because its cheaper to get employees through them then to hire them themselves. But driving an hour to get to a 10.00 an hour job? Not worth it. If he explains it to the temp agency I am sure the agency would understand too.
Sorry to hear about all of your troubles autumn

Oh autumn I'm sorry to hear about your dilemma! I think it's a wonderful idea that at least he goes out and talks to the supervisor. If it's a carpenter's assistant job, that must mean there is at least one carpenter! Sooooooooo, maybe they will have a carpenter's job open soon, or maybe they can find him something else to do, or maybe they can....well, who knows! Wait until he gets back and hopefully something good can come from this! I'll be crossing my fingers. Let us know!

Sep 11 2008, 06:15 AM
Thats true. Or he could prove how great he is and they would hire him on full time, but its based on hope, thats what sucks about temp agency. You could get a boss who wants to eventually hire you or you could have someone who just wants the cheap labour for a short amount of time.

Autumn... I'm so sorry... that is such a hard call to make. I know the temp agency I worked for always said I could turn down work and they would still call me (and since joining I've turned down EVERYTHING and they won't leave me alone).. so... I hope that is the same for him. Did they ask him a minimum amount that he has to have to work? Sometimes that helps if you quantify how much you have to make in order for this whole thing to make sence. I know they had a pay rate on file for me at the temp agency.
Did your hubby every get EI? I can't remember if you said the outcome of that.
