Now...a previous poster commented about exorbitant costs and how many other developed countries process immigrants at little or no cost. Well thats just grand! But the real question is, why isn't the U.S. citizen spouse emigrating to the foreign spouse's country? Seems like it would be easier and lot less stressful given that the developed country's is so immigration-friendly, no? The fact is that your spouses all wanted to come here to live and not the other way around. I think that says a lot about the good ol' U.S.A. Yes, things take longer, but here in the States we run a lot more security checks on any prospective immigrant (and rightly so) than any other country.

Well, this just boils my blood. What an idiot. Yes, we all came here because the US is the best country on the planet. What an arrogant and moronic thing to say.

Severance package rofl.gif rofl.gif rofl.gif You optimist! wink.gif (Long story, suffice it to say we are glad to be done with this company!)

But our medical insurance will be covered for the rest of the month (I guess that's the severance package!) , and then new job will pick it up. So my mind can rest easy on that issue.

Seriously though, I'm exhausted by the roller coaster of emotions I've been on today! Thanks for the good thoughts. smile.gif

Congratulations on the new job! That is great. He shouldn't have any problems with the stamp - that is actually one of the items listed in the I-9 form for new employees. It is the NOA letter that isn't listed that is really causing problems. So, in a way, he is even better off with the stamp than with the extension letter. Good to know something is working for the best, isn't it? I go and get my stamp tomorrow - and glad that I won't have to fight with the Driver's License office to get my Driver's License renewed with the NOA as well. Now, if they would just hurry up and get the I-751s processed!

I had a huge mental vent yesterday

I'm a verizon wireless customer and my phone sucks!
It's the LG VX8500.
I've already traded it twice and each new phone I get in this model sucks for another reason.
1) Battery started dying in one day of NO USE
2) Mid call, my phone would cut and and I wouldn't hear what the person was saying on the line for like 20-30 seconds

And now, the latest one I got was a werid error message about some backup assistant and the camera freezing

So, 2 days ago, I call CSR, and tell them I'm tired of trying to get this phone to work and would like to switch to another one entirely
They say sure as long as it's something less than or equal $169.99

Yesterday I go to my Verizon Wireless store to pick out a new phone and the woman at the counter was first off, A B!TCH!

She just came off irritated at the fact of having to be there, that was needed to talk to her etc

Then she reads the note on my file where it shows that I talked to CSR the day before and I got approved to do this (cuz apparently, you can't change models)

Then she says that it doesn't matter what we get told, she knows that we can't get what we came there for. THen she calls a co-worker to ask her for her opinion, and the co-worker says, "well, it got approved, so go ahead"

Then she goes to the back all pissed off, comes back and says her manager says NO.

then continues to give me attitude so I storm off.

I call verizon again, tell them what happened, and they are upgrading my phone and I should get it in a few days.

I HATE THAT WOMAN

Sigh.

The flight my mom and sister were supposed to be on this a.m. was canceled. Some type of problem with a battery that needed to be recharged. They sat and waited in the Edmonton airport for 4 hours until they could find out what other flight they will be on.

I have the new flight info and they will be arriving at 10:30 pm instead of the original 5:00 pm.

I'm happy they will still arrive today but the 5:00 was perfect- I'd go pick them up, it would still be sunny and light- we would stop by the house to see Cooper and drop off luggage and then go meet Mel at the University and then go to dinner.

I have an issue with dogs with separation anxiety and retarded downstairs neighbors. This means I can't leave my dog home alone cause she's loud, but it also means that when I tried to leave her in the car today to go into a shop, she peed on the seat, in the NEW car! (Well, new to us anyhow.) ARGH! I need help! I don't know what to do with this dog anymore. I need to get her to realize she's okay on her own.
liz_legend 'n Ol
I would start by doing little really short trips away from your dog
like leave your apt for 20 seconds and stand in the hallway..
then a little longer...

also, give your dog a kong (filled with frozen treats and peanut butter) or something else he really likes.....

here's more tips I found online:
Here are some things you can do to help.

Try to make your arrivals and departures very boring and low-key. Don't make a big fuss over saying hello and goodbye. Be very casual and up-beat.

Try to make interactions with your dog on your terms, not his. You pet him, treat him, or play with him when you want, and not when he asks for it.

Get your dog used to your getting-ready-to-leave cues, like picking up keys and jacket. Go through these actions repeatedly during the time when you're staying home, without actually leaving. If your dog has already learned to associate his fears with your departure cues, it will take a lot of repetitions before the dog will get it.

Give your dog more exercise. A tired dog is a good dog! A dog can sleep most of the day if he's tired enough. Most young dogs could use 20-100 minutes of full-speed running per day. Increase your dog's exercise. Don't forget mental exercise, like training, exploring new places, encountering new smells, and social interaction with other dogs. Taking your dog to a park where he can run and play with others may be crucial. (Find dog parks around San Jose here.)

Give your dog something to do while you're gone! What does your dog do all day- wait around for you to come home? Give your dog a hobby. Jean Donaldson calls the solution to a lot of dog problems "work-to-eat" programs. Stuff a Kong or a hollow prepared bone, fill up a Buster Cube or Roll-A-Treat, scatter the dog's food in the grass or hide several chew treats around the house (see the Merchandise page for a description of some of these items). A dog that is working for goodies is not barking or chewing, and a dog that is eating is not as stressed!

Don't draw attention to forbidden objects just before leaving - in other words, don't straighten up or point out the items that you don't want the dog to chew. Your dog might misinterpret your attention and give those objects his attention just because of it. In a similar way, punishing your dog afterwards for destruction he's done will probably not help - it will not reduce your dog's anxiety, show him a better way to deal with it, or give him an alternative behavior. He might not even connect the punishment with the action he did to cause the destruction. (Don't confuse a dog's "appeasement display", developed to stop threats of aggression, with a "guilty look" that implies a promise that your dog won't do it again. See the Body Language pages for more information.)

Consider crating your dog. Some dogs are more comfortable when confined to a small "den". Make sure your dog can "hold it" for as long as you need him to, and provide plenty of exercise so that his main activity in the crate is sleeping. You might just want to consider leaving your dog in one room (rather than giving him the run of the house), and maybe leaving a radio on and an article of clothing that smells like you in the next room. Warning: Some dogs are a lot less comfortable confined to a crate when alone. Make sure your dog is comfortable and secure.

Consider taking your dog to doggie daycare or to a friend's house (or to work or on errands with you), so that he is not actually alone, while you train your dog to deal with being alone. Remember, dogs are pack animals that want to be with others; being a "lone wolf" can be dangerous in the wild, as well as lonely. Note that for many dogs who have bonded strongly with people, having another dog (or other pet) around will not be sufficient.

I am feeling very anit-U.S. government at the moment.

I just checked the irs.gov site for info on the stimulus rebate and I do see my specific info (they added a nice little feature here) but was worred when I could only load my data with 1 exemption when I actually filed with 3 (head of household, myself, and 1 dependent child). According to the site, the rebate heading my way is $300 which I found disturbing. I called the IRS and was informed that dependents who were 17 or older as of Dec 31, 2007 do not qualify. My son turned 17 in November 2007. I guess this means it is ok per the IRS to stop feeding him now.

I constantly wonder why I am amazed by stupidity even though I see it daily. You would think I would be immune by now.

Awwwww ..... well, have a nice glass of wine while you wait for them ... the time will go by faster.

Get Mel to drive and drink the whole dang bottle!!! After all, you have to have a drink for me smile.gif

The first stop my mom and sis want to make is the drive thru Daiquiri shop. My mom doesn't really drink so she'll be hammered after a few sips- they are strong!!

I love drunken Mama!!!

Thanks Liz. That's some great advice. I'm working on trying all of those right now. It's a bit more difficult cause she's had 3 years to get like this, plus we've got company right now and that always throws everything way out of whack! I'm working on it though. I'm going to get her to the point where she's fine being home by herself while I'm not here. It's just too bad that she hates her crate!

After you crate your neighbour, you're supposed to ship her out. headbonk.gif

Baxter hated his dog bed initially too..
then i would throw treats randomly in it for him to discover later and now he sleeps in it every night until about 6 am at which point he jumps into bed =)

also I was very careful not to use his bed as a punishment spot.
I had to yell at Oliver a few times when he would put him in it when he chewed something...

My sister just phoned from the airport in Chicago- the next flight was also canceled and the new flight they are on will arrive around midnight.

Holy Mackerel! That's flipping annoying! Chicago is the WORST for flight delays. You're always guaranteed to add another hour or two to the arrival time of anyone travelling through there. mad.gif

Oh well. The main thing is that they arrive safely. smile.gif

True- I just feel bad for them. They were at the Edmonton airport at 6 am and had to wait an extra 4 hours because the first flight also had problems.
