When my DS-230 was RFE'd to me on missing documents, the NVC wrote in the letter that I was to write your CIS or NVC case number on the upper right hand corner of each document I was sending in. On originals I wrote in pencil.

You know, that is probably a really good idea.

My documents weren't lost, thankfully, however I didn't write the number on them and I probably wouldn't, as I don't want to write on our original documents - even in pencil.

Plus it would seem to me that the NVC could SURELY identify your file with the original document, all of which have the beneficiaries or petitioners name on them, plus other identifying information - I mean REALLY.

Still think it is a helpful suggestion though good.gif

I will pray for the best. What more can I do at this stage????

I am not even sure if I was misinformed at that time when NVC declared missing documents in my case, but I was pretty sure that I wrote my case# on every pages of each documents.

I decided that I didnt want to write on them either so I made labels out of sticky notes....I will let you all know if it worked or not. I know they have recieved my DS230 but my case is still not complete.

I suggest the new people going through the NVC to check James' shortcuts in the National Visa Center forum. He suggests to write your case # an the paperwork you send the NVC. That's what I did and everything was rather quick and flawless.

Seems like everyone is sending the original docs to NVC (like marriage certificate). Can I make a copy, translate it and notarize and sent NVC? Will it be ok? as I am afraid the original might be lost even observing your advice (writing a case number on every doc)
Mononoke28
The documents you send the NVC need to be either originals OR certified copies.

Dear Mariya,

I made a copy of my marriage certificate, took it to a notary public, had it notarized (certified) and sent it to the NVC.

I was RFE'd for this.

Instructions for DS-230 state

"...Married applicants must obtain an original marriage certificate, or a certified copy, bearing the appropriate seal or stamp of the issuing authority. ...."

This means a copy has to be certified by the same office that issued the original marriage certificate.
Mariya
Nutty Thank you.
But waht does RFE'd mean? Reffered??
Please decipher fro the Dummie huh.gif

RFE is "Request For Evidence". Basically they want more information or something you sent is not correct and needs to be fixed.

hi

Point Noted Nutty... you have given a pretty good tip for all us ... We wrote on the Envelope in block letters .. but not on the documents. I hope people take note of this.... I think this tip should be entered in the FAQ's for filling out forms and sending documents. It will have tonnes of friends .

Yes, they give them back to you at the interview.
