We both speak English fluently and we can communicate in our local dialects as well (my fiance better since it is his first language and my second). But we speak mostly English smile.gif

I speak my SO's language....we just prefer English. And I think that I was introduced to him by my cousin in his language.
Bootylicious
We spoke english when we met but it was hard. Javi wasn't fluent in english at all and I sure couldn't speak spanish. We got through it though and now we only use spanish when we are messing around. Javi speaks english so often that he forgets words in spanish when he's trying to talk to his family. It's so funny! He asks me what the word is. unsure.gif I had to choose Hagen. It rocks!

i voted..and voted ben and jerry..i liked the new.. rocky rambo flavor

My husband is fluent in French and English, I speak English (native language), some Spanish, and some French. We're teaching our daughter to speak French and Spanish. I can understand some French when his family speaks (all his family are bilingual) but they are very kind around me and speak English mostly.

Oh yeah, I voted Ben and Jerry's Strawberry....yummmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!
bora bora
I'm the USC and voted bilingual (even though I speak Spanish too) and that my SO speaks basic English. When we met he could barely say "My name is..." in English - so he's made it a long way.
We still speak Portuguese mainly, though I speak more and more English to him - which he answers mostly in Portugues...grrr blush.gif

Awwww...my Hagen vote shouldnīt be counted! crying.gif Wanted to vote for Benīs good.gif

I butchered this poll.

I speak three languages--English, Tamil (my native) and French--fluently; also learned German in high school, but out of practice.

Pras speaks English, Telugu (her native) and some "Hyderabadi Hindi" (patois spoken in AP's capitol city).

We communicate in English as neither of us knows the other's native language.

We're both from English speaking countries but I (USC) am bilingual.
Pattu Rani
No option for USC - bilingual(basic) and SO -bilingual (Adv.)?

I spoke very basic Nepali when we met - G's English is what I would consider to be intermediate to advanced. We speak a mixture of Nepali and English.

And I vote for Haagen Dazs vanilla swiss almond - yummmm!!

Heh - I speak French as well, and German, plus fluent Italian(lived in Italy for 2 years). My Nepali ex also spoke French, and we used to speak French when we didn't want anyone else around understanding our conversations. Too bad my husband only knows Nepali and English. laughing.gif

When Annie and I first met, we only chatted on YM. Her english was ok, but definitely not advanced. My visayan and tagalog were non existent.

When we first started talking on the phone, there was good basic communication, but limited. Her english skills have improved every month since then, more from a practice standpoint, than a knowledge standpoint. Her knowledge of English is fairly good from school in the Philippines, but her grammar and spelling were weak, but have improved dramatically.

I have picked up a few basic phrases in Visayan, and will work on more when Annie and I are together, and she can teach her big idiot.

And my singing skills.. wow, they have improved dramatically.. all the way from a 10 on Videoke all the way to a 50..I almost feel Filipino now.

Hagen or Ben's?????? Where's my Blue Bell?
Mo_Mati
I am one of the 4 who currently have reported that we speak our SO's language (for me that means spanish)! I was living in Chile when we met and at that time his English was pretty darn basic. We still communicate in spanish, but his english is definitely getting better and the best is that he is motivated to learn!!
Oh...and the crazy flavors of Ben and Jerry's definitely rules

I have a language thing with Claudeth, she doesn't understand "no" when it comes to spending tongue.gif
SoL.
Pieter and I communicate in English, as we are both fluent. smile.gif

I communicate with my kids and familia en Espaņol and with Pieter's family, in Dutch. I also speak Italian and he speaks Frisian, French and German. And now he's learning Spanish. good.gif

And it's Hagen, Dulce de Leche, my fav! tongue.gif
Eresh
I only speak English. I know a few words & phrases in Romanian but that is all. My husband speaks Romanian {of course}, English, French & German fluently. I love Ben & Jerry's...chocolate fudge brownie...mmmm

Phish Food!

Hubster's native language is Arabic and he is also fluent in French and competent in English. I speak English and Spanish, and some passable Arabic and French. When we first met we used a mixture of my poor French and his poor English. He has since improved a great deal in English so that's the primary language we use at home. This always changes when we get mad at each other. He rattles at me in Arabic, I fire back in Spanish. Neither of us understand the other, so it works out well smile.gif

BabyBlueSusie
i didnt vote because there was no answer to number 2 for me

USC: english & italian
SO: albanian & italian

we understood eachother when we first met because we both spoke a third language (italian is both of ours second language)

also, number 3 is a toss for me...theyre good for different things...haagan daz has the best coffee ice cream ever, and theyre better for plain type ice creams, while ben and jerrys has like 20 items in each tub...ohh man the chocolate fudge brownie mmm delish

I wanted to choose USC bilingual basic and SO bilingual Adv. But that wasn't an option. Oh well....

Blue Bell Anniversary Cake good.gif it's my favorite lately
Flavorful almond ice cream with delicious white cake pieces and a swirl of rich amaretto cream cheese icing.

Luis&Laura
Luis speaks Spanish and English and can understand but not speak Portuguese. I speak Portuguese, English and now Spanish as well.

When we met we used to speak to each other in English until we got married. I didn't speak Spanish then and he didn't speak Portuguese.
krakatoa
My husband and I communicate best in English, no problem at all but my husband (the USC) can derive what is being said in Filipino's Tagalog also. The only way he can't catch up with the Tagalog conversation is to totally omit his so-called "key words" which are in English. Some of my folks speak mixed English and Fil.
Amby
when neil & I first met he understood me and even though we're both from english speaking countries his accent is so strong I said huh or what to about every other sentence he said. we've been in the US together for almost a year now and my family can finally understand him but a few have said that they can understand him when he talks to them but if we're talking to each other he talks faster or doesn't try to slow down and then they can't understand him

adding on....my business partner can't understand him at all and he just laughs at everything neil says. it's so funny cos he has no clue what neil is talking about

I speak English and French. When we met, Hicham spoke Arabic and French. He now speaks English but we still speak in French- it's just easier and I dont' want to lose my French.

Do you speak English/SO language?

*We both speak each other's native languages. My husband's English is better than my German, but my German is OK. I just have a terrible accent.

Could you understand Each other when you met?

*Yeah, at that time, his English was far superior to my German. Though it was a learning curve for him because they don't teach Northern Midlands American English in their high schools. tongue.gif I remember though the first night we were together very drunk on the beach and he asked me how I spoke English all the time because it was harrrrddd. ROFLAMO!

Which ice cream do you prefer, Hagen Dasz or Ben & Jerrys?
*
You know, I have never had Ben and Jerry's.
przy
I'm fluent in English, German, French and Spanish and my husband is fluent in German and he has very basic English skills. He can understand English a lot better than he can reply back. He just needs to learn more vocabulary. I understand how difficult it can be learning a language though!
MIDUVIL
I speak fluently french and an intermediate english.
My us husband talks english and studied french there are long years ago.
We communicate in english, but in his desire to learn french he mixes english, french and others latino-languages.
So i'm afraid to have one day a mixed false english blush.gif

i am bilingual. i can speak our native language tagalog and i can speak english. hubby speaks english and a bit of german
Alex & Rachel
Haha, I like the answer 'kinda (we're both from English speaking countries)' tongue.gif

Alex and I can understand each other just fine. Neither of our accents are that thick. He only asks me to repeat myself when he wants to make fun of me.

And Ben & Jerry's! I don't know if it's just in the UK but their chocolate ice-cream has a higher cocoa content and is generally richer than even Haagan's Belgian Chocolate flavour. Plus their UK-exclusive flavour, Chocolate Therapy, is simply heavenly. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) it's also really hard to find. sad.gif

Actually, I just checked their website and they no longer sell it. crying.gif
HighwayStar
I am bilingual (Adv.), and besides Italian and English I also speak French, German, Finnish and some Spanish. My SO (the USC) only speaks English, though he's trying to learn Italian, and can sort of understand both the written and the spoken language.

As for the ice-cream... Ben and Jerry's ROCKS!!!! Though of course Haagen-Dasz is not half bad either.
Henia
Both of us are advanced multi-lingual. Hagen I agree, rocks!

I was going to post that! Cherry Garcia is one of the best things I've had in the US.
