Hey guys...... I went for my first interview last week for a part-time job working in the local store, and surprise surprise, i got the job

The boss called me this morning, seems he wants me to start this very afternoon. I guess it had something to do with my accent and the fact that i had him laughing during my interview that made him hire me

Its better than sitting on my azz at home, being picky about what job to chose, also it gets me out of the house and meeting people. The store is only like 5 mins from home so thats a bonus, anyways i'm gonna be working for HyVee....so no wise-cracks from any of you

I gotta go get ready for work!! i start at 3pm and its now almost 1pm

Well done!!!
I must admit, Im terrified about starting work, I think the 4 months sat on my bum hasnt helped.
I worked for the government back in the UK, but as Im not a citizen, cant do that here.
Im going to give a few local stores a call as we only have 1 car at the mo, and see if I can find something to start soon.
At least it will get me into the habit of talking to PEOPLE other than my husband or...erm...myself.
All the best and hope your first day goes well!!

That's not true. Some specific defense and confidential jobs require citizenship. But most jobs don't require citizenship. You should check out USAJOBS.

Sorry I should have been more specific. I worked in Welfare Benefits so the SSA is the sort of place, my skills would be useful, last time I heard they required citizenship.
Cheers!

The State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance does not require citizenship for employees. Give them a try. Well, I mean if you're looking for a job. I just don't want you to think that you are pigeonholed and can't find anything, which is frustrating when you are trying to start a whole new life in a new country.

Glad it went well..
thanks for the heads up on the government department, Ill look into that one!!
I applied for a job online this morning and received a call today asking me in for an interview tomorrow!!!
Its working part time in a large pharmacy as a customer service gal, which I hope I get as I desperately need to start work.
I only received my EAD card production ordered, email on Thursday, so Im not sure how to handle the proof of work authorisation situation.
To be honest, I wasnt expecting such a swift response.
Hopefully, they will hire me and wait for the card to be delivered?

Thank you

When i was finished my 2nd day, i worked till 8pm, my M-I-L picked me up and i was in bed by 9pm and sleeping by 9:15
I guess it will take me a couple of weeks to get used to working, since its only been a few weeks since i had major surgery done! and i'm tiring myself out pretty quick lol... maybe i'm overdoing it abit?
I'm glad i've got the day off today, i could barely drag my butt out of bed

Back to work tomorrow bright and early...9am start

I'm envious I want to work also but I need to wait till the baby was born. I'm sure nobody wants to hire even for part time job a preggy lady like me
Four months to wait. Now I'm thinking maybe a schooling will be better to make me busy.

Went to work today as usual, got there and the supervisor took one look at me sent me home. No color in my cheeks, throat like sandpaper, hands like ice......yep you got it.....i got the flu
I felt bad because this is only my 2nd week at my new job

I'm supposed to work tomorrow as well, but got told to call in and speak to ma supervisor who will mark me off as sick.....again!
She said that because i work with food! i can't be there with sniffles, sneezing and such

Congrats....most places are ok about the EAD thing...give them a copy of your approval/production ordered email or letter. I started out working for HUD (housing) ...hated it but then because of the local and welfare experience I got I landed my current job as a casemanager in a mental health agency..............so the rule of thumb is...take what u can get and then get some USA experience behind u, in my experience lots of places want USA experience.
Good luck
