My fiance traveled back to Lagos to prepare for his interview next week, but the only thing that is missing is the documents that I sent way back September 18th. Argggggggghhhhhh! Wretched Nigerian postal service! I can't believe it is still not there! I am thinking of sending documents to him via email. Is that possible? Especially with the Affidavit. On the other hand, I still have to have those important documents in his hands because it has all our pictures and my bank and tax statements, employment letters etc... crying.gif crying.gif Oh man! I am earnestly praying that it get there by the end of this week or Monday! I truly don't want to have his interview rescheduled or truncated in any way. Any suggestions?

Does Fed Ex go there?
JJWashington
If there is any way you can fedex the documents again, I would do that. I fedexed mine on a Monday and they were there on Friday

Fed ex may not make it there on time before next week Tuesday. I wish. I sent my documents via global express with tracking number and insurance and everything. The USPS reassured me that it would be there in 8 days. It's been two weeks. I shutter to think where my documents may be. mad.gif I am just going to have faith.

well, you could email many of the documents, but for the Affidavit of Support, I know they want a certified original copy. Maybe they would allow you to fax it to them giving the circumstances. I would call the Consulate and explain the situation and offer them proof that you mailed the documents. it can't hurt....

Sounds like a plan. Maybe I will call the embassy too. I already sent an email the Lagos embassy earlier tonight. I wonder would they be able to accept copies of our pictures? I knew I should have followed my first mind and sent the documents via Fed Ex or DHL. It was cheaper through USPS though. Oh well. You live and learn. blush.gif

Please is better you send every documents to your fiance thru fedex. With fedex every document will get to him in three working days. many times i sent parcels thru fedex to my BABY and it get to her in 3 working days. Same she also does.

Wishing you Lord blessing and good luck

When I sent mine I used DHL.....You can keep track of it from the moment it leaves to the time it arrives through the on line system.....It takes 3 days to get there.....
I'm Mrs. Akindel
I would also suggest Fed Ex or DHL under the circumstances. For future reference you may want to think about send ing documents atleast amonth in advance. The postal service in Nigeria s pretty rough

I agree with this, my wife usually use DHL and it will arrive nigeria in 3 business days but sometimes it can be delayed due to clearance processing in the USA.. Your fiancee should have told you that Nigerian postal service is sh*t they package may have arrived there in 8 business days as the USPS says, nigerian postal service will take all the time in the world to go deliver it. I will advice you to tell your fiancee to go the nearest post office.

DHL id way better then FEDEX in my experience. It always gets there when they say it will. For the OP, I would email him the documents and try to DHL only what needs to be original.
Queen Jenn
Yup, Nigerian postal service SUCKS!!!!!!! The affidavit of support has to be an original, I believe. So the only way to accomplish that is to send it via DHL or FEDEX. Your choice. I use fedex. I have not had any problems - except for when I messed up the address once ohmy.gif

Good luck!!

I am so sorry to hear that this is happening. Hopefully he will get the documents before his interview.

I remember when I used to send items to my husband in Nigeria and it would take months for them to get there, and I thank God that they would arrive although not when I wanted them to, and this was using the USPS. I would always do an investigation through USPS and normally the packages would arrive the following week after the investigation was done. I thought that was interesting.

When my husband had his interview in August, I again, sent the documents through USPS, for one reason, it was alot cheaper and two, he told me that I should, to save the money. We both knew what could happen, and we believed God for the best. I remember I sent it out on July 20, 2007 and I was told that it would take 8-10 business days. I had heard that before, anyway, this time, the documents arrived a week before his interview, August 13, 2007. We were both pleased about that.

If it helps, you may want to call and have an investigation done to find out where the package could be.

I will be praying for you.

Send through DHL now. Also send copies via email so that he has copies if he has to explain anything. Send those copies to the embassy as well, explaining what is happening with the mail problem. Ask your fiance to also go to the post office or customs office (because sometimes the packages from the US are held up in the customs office within the country before the postal system even gets their hands on it) and ask for his package. They may need monetary assistance to help him though, cause the bribe system seems to be the only working system.

Good Luck!

Keep us updated.

I tracked the package thru USPS website and it is said to be in International dispatch? blink.gif I called USPS and they said that if it isn't there in 1-5 business days then call back again. I told them that I needed it there by Tuesday of next week. She couldn't help me. I don't know. I called DHL and Fed X. They told me that the cost would be between $101-$109. The time to get there for Fed x would be October 15 and DHL would be on Monday. Firstly, I am not willing to pay $100 to send 3 pages over to Nigeria! It's not worth the money for 3 measly pieces of paper. I would literally kick myself! My fiance kept trying to console me. He is all calm about it and has more faith than I do! I just pray the package is there in Nigeria at the post office and not in the Abyssful sea. crying.gif It will be a miracle if the embassy would accept faxed copies of everything and my fiance would go through with flying colors.

I will call the Lagos embassy first thing tommorrow and talk to someone about my dilemma. I wish I knew someone trustful that was going to Nigeria this weekend. I would send it by them. Ah well, wishful thinking. Anyway, thanks for the responses. good.gif

It would be to me. yes.gif

Well, Good Luck with that!

I am sorry to hear about this...and I hope that it will be resolved. I can understand the money...for 3 pages....$100 is alot. I wish that you could fax everything. Just remember that everything that you invest into the relationship..will come back to you in the end....in many many ways.

I try to conserve and spend wisely all the time....and when I was in your situation...going thru the interview process...there were afew times I had unexpected fee's....and it was difficult and I was unhappy, but unfortunately I had no choice but to take care of business.

I think you have 2 options....reschedule interview if possible or send DHL/Fed x....because if your SO goes there and does not have the required documentation...they could tell him that he does not have all the documentation needed and they can not see him (depending on consulate)....that would be horrible.

The good news is....on Tuesday, your baby could be approved and then get his visa in a matter of days...and that money will be well invested smile.gif I wish you the best....please be strong...it will all work out.

I know it's a lot of money. But I'm willing to pay that kind of $$ to know that it will get there quickly.
I doubt that the embassy will accept faxed copies.
Look at it this way - You're not spending $100 to send 3 measly pieces of paper to Nigeria, You're spending $100 to MAKE SURE that the one you love has EVERYTHING he needs in order to get the visa to be with you. Isn't it worth it to get him here?

Sorry to hear about what you are going through. I have never had any luck with USPS when it came to sending things to my husband in Lagos. I remember things taking like 6-8 weeks after they promised me just 10 days. After all the investigating and experience I found out that the customs in Nigeria can hold the package how long they want to hold it. The US has no control over it once it leaves the US. I remeber my husband making many inquiries about packages and then having to pay money for them to turn the package over.
I have had good experiences with DHL. I got copies of our wedding pictures made and our wedding movie for my husband to give to his family and it was expensive but it was worth the peace of mind that he would get it and sometimes you may have to send things that will be hard to replace so I think the money is worth it.
Good Luck I pray that everything works out good.gif

If you your fiancee doesn't receive the documents by monday i suggest you fax him the papers including the affidavit of support as long as it shows the notary stamp on it ... My wife sent me the affidavit via email"She scanned and emailed it to me all i did was printed it out and took it to the interview the next morning.

Good Luck.

Oh my goodness. Really? She scanned the affidavit and sent it via email? I didn't know they would accept it being scanned and sent by email. Did they have any concerns about that? Did you have any problems? The affidavit is my biggest concern. I can always email the other documents, but the affidavit is one of the most important documents they would need. I had to go and and get another notary stamp on some I134 forms today. I was also thinking about having the notary person write a letter stating that they did sign and stamp the form too. Just as long as he has the needed documents for the interview I am fine.

Tell your fiance to go to the Post Office and expect to pay for the package that is probably waiting there. I would fedex or DHL the Affidavit, but if it is not possible, an emailed copy to him and possibly follow=up with a faxed copy to the Embassy would work. Good Luck!

That's what I was thinking about having him do as well, but if push come to shove I will probably have to send the documents via email. I will be doing a lot of emailing.
