Ok folks - with 1 week to go, I am in the doubting mode...did I do this right, do I have enough info etc..

Yes, I have quadrulple checked every little thing.......my 1 question is did I have the right police check done? It says Canada wide, I have no record so no finger prints were needed. It took them 10 minutes from start to finish and I paid my $30.

How come there seem to be so many variances. Some people paid more, some sent away finger prints (of course for all I know they are felons smile.gif and it took a few weeks etc etc.....

Put my mind at rest if you can, please

Canada wide name check is fine as long as you have no criminal record...

flames9
is it rainbow colored?? On Wednesday interviews it HAS to be rainbow colored!! Tis the rules!!

Just kidding, it should be fine!!!
liz_legend 'n Ol
sounds like mine!
MissStacey
Is it the background check? Or is it the Police Certificate?
MissStacey
Did you get it through the RCMP?

Mine is a white piece of paper that has in the top corner- Canadian Police Certificate for Visa Applicants/Foreign Travel/Foreign Work Permits.

I also have a Criminal Record Check- but it isn't the same as the Police Certificate. One of the woman who was sitting beside me at the Consulate had the background check only and was told she would need the Police Certificate.

Criminal Records Check

- it has an area checked which indicates no criminal convictions have been found

That isn't the right one.

I had to phone my RCMP a few times- most of the people that worked at the desk had no idea what I was talking about- I said I already had the Criminal Background Check and it was the Police Certificate I needed. I finally talked to a woman who knew what I was talking about- I went down and it was printed out in a few minutes. I think it was about 30 dollars.

May I jump in here???
This is the website to my local police station
Brantford Police

At the bottom it has the file to download for a Police Clearance Check...is this the right one?

I've lived in Brantford my entire life and I have no record of anything innocent.gif
LOL
Thanks smile.gif
Udella&Wiz
It's a little fancier then that actually

Similar to you, I've lived my entire life in the Waterloo region without so much as offending a fly.

I reread the Packet 3 instructions and it doesn't specifically say RCMP...just that it must be Canada wide and that you must have 1 from every are you've lived in since age 16.

So...either I'll find out that I don't have enough info at next week's interview or I'll be fine.

If I do need something from the RCMP - where do I look up who to contact? Hpow long does this type of check take?

It amazes me that there's such a variety...be much easier if they said you nedd Form Xxxxx, you know?
flames9
doesnt have to from the RCMP. At 1 time it did. But now the local police forces can check canada wide!! Thus you only require 1 certificate, even if u lived in 10 places in canada.

and they all look different, cost different, and processing times are different. They even vary from RCMP detachment to RCMP detachment.

If by some chance, they dont accept it. There is a RCMP detachment in montreal that does them. I have read here on VJ, where others made the mad dash to it, and got it the same day. Not sure if thats the norm. Im sure it will go well.

This isn't appicable to everyone! I remember this is what you told me about a year ago flames! haha Got me all confused as well. Each region has different paper or colours etc. Mine was white. I thought I had the wrong one.

What's important, is Canada Wide NAME check. (Unless you have a record of course).

Sounds like you're good to go!

Maybe it's too early for me to be typing anything! I didn't see this posting, or whizzed through it without seeing it correctly. blush.gif

I was teasing you about your earlier post, and you elaborated in this one.

I was actually 'worrying' (wondering) about the exact same thing! I got mine in April and it's a Canada wide name check but it doesn't say anything about fiance visas or immigration purposes on it... just says it's not valid for working with children! Umm I hope it's the right one! It cost $25 and only took 2 minutes to get!
MissStacey
No, it doesn't have to be from the RCMP, but I do believe it has to be a Police Certificate.

I know the RCMP's Criminal Record check is not the same as the Police Certificate. The Police Certificate from the RCMP used to be a small yellow sheet of paper, now it is a full white sheet of paper that they print out.

Don't worry ...you're good to go ...

I had the same one when I went to the interview ... she questioned its validity at my interview until I showed her where on the paper it said that it was Canada wide.

Were you replying to my comment or Udella & Wiz? smile.gif

(I'll have to remember that - to point out that it's Canada wide, in case they question it!) Mine is the full white sheet of paper and it has the seal on it. I just got it from the main police station in my city downtown.

Two more weeks for me!! I can't wait but I'm a bit nervous too!

Just as an FYI to anyone who may be getting their check done by the Toronto police I went yesterday and they say the standard wait is 7-10 business days and they mail the letter to you. This was the last thing I needed before my interview in two weeks and I had been procrastinating so freaked a bit when I heard this so...if you have a valid reason, (like an interview letter from U.S. immigration!) they can have the letter done in 48 hours and you can pick it up. Lesson learned? Don't wait until two weeks before your interview to get paperwork AND always ask for expedited service!

You should have gone to Peel Region or Durham Region, they both do it while you wait and Durham is open 24/7. I believe Peel Regional Police are cheaper.
Udella&Wiz
Thanks folks....I ended up freaking and calling the local RCMP office and had a nice chat...she said they basically do the same check as the regional police do - but get this...for free (oh well $30 well paid I suppose)

Because I'm anal (and it's free) - I'm going to pickup the RCMP version and bring both (maybe one will be prettier, I dunno biggrin.gif

I'm surprised my HTB can stand me anymore...I'm going to be terrible for at least 7 more days

Wow. I just might do the same thing if I can get it free from the RCMP here. Wouldn't hurt. And it would be more up to date anyway (mine is from April!)

Which RCMP office did you contact, since I wouldn't mind getting a more current police check (on RCMP stationary) for free?
Tinker
The RCMP detachment here, has a sign posted by the front desk. Police certificates for visa applicants. It does say police certificate on your Packet 3 list. Takes about 5 minutes and $20 or $25. Make sure that they put all your names, including maiden name if you have been married.

Yes Melyssa ... it's the same one that I had ... and I used it successfully
