Okay...so here's a bit of a weird situation that my good friend is in and I told her that I would throw the scenario out to all my fellow VJ'ers because you guys are amazing with knowing all the in's and out's of this immigration process.

She married a guy in Central America and lived with him for awhile down there. Things turned out bad and she decided to come back home in the U.S. He ended up coming over the the U.S. without ever talking to her about it and just sort of showed up. He snuck in so he came across illegally. My friend does not want to be with him but he just won't go away. He's desperately trying to get her back and fix the relationship but she is just over it. So now, she doesn't know what to do. The local authorities don't do anything about illegal immigrants in our area and she doesn't know who else to turn to. Can you just call somebody up? I mean, people won't just come over and pay for someone to go back where they came from...right?

Anyways...if you have any questions, please ask and I'll try to get them answered if I don't know the answer already. I know a lot about their past but not everything. He's from Guatemala and she lives nearby me in South Texas. I'd love to pass along some better and more informed advice to her, so if you can help out...I know it would be appreciated.

Thanks a bunch!

Not much can be done other than contacting ICE and making a report. Also getting a restraining order filed. If violated this may be used to get the person arrested and perhaps deported.

If he is harrassing her, I would tell your friend to get a protection order against him. Then, if he contacts her in any way, by phone, email or in person, she can call the police and he will be arrested.

Has your friend started divorce proceedings against her husband?

eap620
Yes, she has started the divorce proceedings but it is all done in Guatemala since she never claimed the marriage here in the U.S. It's taking awhile and there are some hang ups...especially since he's not there now to sign papers, etc.

She can simply divorce him here. Married is married. You don't have to "claim the marriage here...".

Sounds like Days of our Lives, Young and the Restless.
So he pops up here on what type of visa?..Or is that
required south of the border?..What state is this don't
know what to do with illegals?..Harrasment?..Abuse?
If this is true tell her to call her local county Health
Department, Social Services someone there can take
it to another level..Has to be reality though.

You can contact ICE via email at Immigration.Reply@dhs.gov or you can telephone ICE at 1-866-347-2423

Tell her to give them a call they can and will help...

Definitely get a court order. If he violates that he gets arrested and then other issues could come into play like deportation and having a criminal record.

If he's sneaking onto her house and bothering her,she should call the local athorities and then file a restraining order.
