Every time I can to visited the States, which was a few times most years since 1996 and since I moved here I have the same problem, and I can't solve it.

In the UK when I drove a car I sat on the right hand side, in the US when I drive a car I sit on the left hand side. Now the problem is as soon as I got into the driving seat in the US mentally my left and rights swap over. So when I mean left I say right and right when I mean left. It wouldn't be so bad if after I got out of the car they went back the right way, but the first time on each trip I got behind the wheel they changed and stayed like it until I got back to the UK.

After 10 months living here it is starting to get annoying.

LOL....... I have the same problem.... I am always getting my left and right mixed up.. never happened when I lived in the UK...

My husband does the same thing...you're not alone.
He never had the problem when visiting-probably b/c I was driving !

I wish I could offer some more help...but you aren't alone !

When I first moved here I had a MAJOR issue with even crossing the road and remembering what way the traffic was coming. I'd stand there for so long sometimes I'd start to have birds landing on me...

That I managed to work out, I looked both ways three times and then cross

My wife and I had the same problem! <haha> While I was in Thailand (Bristish style driving), I had to learn to drive on the opposite side of the road...quite challenging! Once my wife came to the United States, she then had to learn to drive on the opposite side of the road here...also quite challenging! <haha>

For us, we both just started to consider ourselves ambidextrous (both right/left handed)...then the problem started to fade away

Since I've been riding my bike on the road I've been fine, until then I was a right old mess.

* You put your left leg in
* You put your left leg out
* You put your left leg in
* And you shake it all about.
* You do the Hokey Cokey and you turn around
* That's what it's all about..."

Aaaaaaand we have another difference.

I haven't got my license here yet. But, when I was practicing driving a few days ago I actually went to put my hand down to the left even though I know the gear stick is on the right here. Just what you are used to, I suppose.

Yeah, you call it the Hokey Pokey, which sounds downright rude to me!

Try turning your head left to look in the rear view mirror that took some time to overcome as well.

It's kind of weird too when I used to try and get in the drivers door here when I am supposed to be a passenger, lol.
