Need some info here if possible.

On Friday Anne and I took a visit to the local Town Hall to get a Marriage Licence, took all the doc's that we would need as stated on the towns web site..... anyway ..... they would not issue a marriage licence as my UK Divorce cert was not signed by a Judge or Clerk of the Court ! I explained to the lady behind the counter that in the UK the Divorce Cert is not signed by anyone, just stamped with a RED SEAL, she would not have it and said she needs one that has a signiture on it from the Judge that made the order or one from the Clerk of the court.

Hmmm !

Ok, this cert was used to apply for the I-129F and shown at the Embassy in the UK when I was issued my visa (K1), so why is it that the local State here will not except it ???

Anyone have any idea's on how to remedy this ?

The UK document is what it is. Clearly the lady thinks she knows what foreign divorce decrees 'should' look like. The decree was good enough for the US govt to issue you a FIANCE visa (which means you had to prove you were indeed free to marry); in theory, it *should* be good enough for her purposes.

But if you don't feel like arguing that point with her, I'd just go to a county clerk's office in another city that is close by.

Hey Ian, would you please update your timeline? According to it, you haven't gotten your NOA2 yet, but it sounds like you are already in the US on your K1 visa. It helps us statistically if you do!

Go to Las Vegas. The clerk wont even ask you for your divorce decrees...they dont care.

$55 and you can get married the same day.

Well, lets see, managed to get the Licence issued yesterday after much running around (via the phone), had to talk to a nice lady in Vital Statistics (Head Clerk), she in turn called the Town Hall and spoke to the clerk there and within 30 mins I was contacted to say that they can now issue the licence -- woooohoo

LOL -- you offering to pay the air fair both ways ????

Anyway, we was thinking of this option, but it's not needed now

I'd loved to have been a fly on the wall during the convo between the Head Clerk and desk clerk...
