While I'm in the US visiting my parents, I'm trying to get all of the forms and taxes sorted. So I've got my I-864 sorted, as I'm my husband's primary sponsor; my parents are the joint sponsor so here are my questions:

-what form are they filling out? A second I-864, or something else?
-Do both of my parents need to complete them (as they are married filing jointly on their taxes) or should just my dad fill the form out, as it's his income?

any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Your dad needs to file a I-864 and I would think your mom needs to sign the form I-864A (Agreement between sponsor and household member or something like that); but maybe I'm wrong... wisdom, anyone? Remember to also take copies of your dad's transcripts and his birth certificate!

A letter from his employers as well as a couple recent pay stubs would be good too. This is assuming the OP's dad's income makes up the majority of the income of their household. If the mom makes more money, the opposite would be better - her on the I-864 and dad on the I-864A with employment info from mom. Proof of the mom being a USC would be good too I think - certified birth certificate or copy of her passport.

Just to add -- even though your parents file taxes jointly, there is no need for one to do an I-864 and the other to do an I-864A, unless it is necessary to provide adequate levels of sponsorship. My mom and dad file jointly, and only my mom did the I-864. For us, it was just the hassle of more paperwork to complete for no benefit that put us off that route. Just another option for you...
