I have family coming over from England in a few weeks. Of course they have asked , so what do u want us to bring u from here?

Here's what I have come up with so far....weetabix, white musk from the body shop, sarsons vinegar, a bag of fish and chips, galaxy chocolate, crunchies, some pics of the good ole english countryside and christmas crackers!! I know some of them are unrealistic for them to bring....but they asked what i wanted so.......!!

So what would u have people bring over for u???

Well, the US has a Body Shop so, unless they don't carry that particular fragrance, I wouldn't worry about that. wink.gif

Me? Marmite and Cadbury's Flakes. Not together, obviously! laughing.gif
*julez*
Branston Pickle. My cheese and crackers are not the same without it! And I also love those little battenburg cakes. And Murray Mints.
a-jeanne
I would like to know how I can order from Tesco some vegetable chips and some awesome salsa dip. I can't figure out how to order and also if I can find it here in the USA. The dip was a Tesco brand called "finest".
TracyTN
Chocolate.

And once they've filled their extra case with that, I'd ask for more chocolate in the carry on.

A little chocolate stuffed in shirt and pants pockets is okay with me too.

I alays get people to bring me Bisto gravy granuals (chicken and beef), Kenco coffee, Scottish blend Tea Bags, Hob Nobs, Gallaxy Chocolate and a whole box of Sports Mixture Gums....

I have found I can buy Ambrosia Custard, Heinz Baked Beans and a few other goodies from my local supermarket... but they cost mega $$$.

Annie would say that we can never have enough Galaxy chocolate in the house.

You may want to see if there is a World Market near you. They have a great selection of 'international' foods and we find quite bit there. We have seen weetabix plenty of places.

Ditto on the Marks pants! I'm flying out on Saturday for 6 days in the UK and a trip to M&S for pants and their scoopneck T-shirts is on the books. Seriously, I have never owned a better or more flattering T-shirt than their scoopneck one...and it only costs five quid!

Oh, and I will be bringing back some Bart Thai Green Curry paste. I went to Stop & Shop, assuming I could just pick some up because hey! it's in every bleedin' Tesco and Sainsbury's but I went home empty handed. I could buy Ambrosia custard and Heinz baked beans there but no curry paste. Oh the humanity! sad.gif

Oh, and I will be bringing back some Bart Thai Green Curry paste.

I asked my mum to bring over some of the Bart red & green curry sauces (the ones that come in a plastic 'bag')... I was soooo looking forward to eating that stuff again. Apparently Sainsbury's had run out, so she brought me their own-brand stuff, one red and one green, in their plastic bags... I made the green one the other day, it was utterly, utterly crap. Hideous watery stuff that bore no resemblance to green curry at all.

And yeah, I know you can make thai curry easily enough, but I wanted my bag of Barts! I also asked for Loyd Grossman's tomato & chili pasta sauce, but she forgot that - tsk! crying.gif

All this talk of food reminds me - I wish Dr_LHA was still here, I remember him posting something about Bovril not being available over here because of the BSE thing, but... I wanted to tell him, I saw some Bovril in a local place the other day. Vile stuff! (Oh, I also saw South African marmite... who knew they had marmite in South Africa? It has an orange label, y'know...).

you can probably see DR_lha on one of the other sites.

Tesco here is know as Fresh and Easy, its starting in So California. They are not going to have a lot of 'British' foods.
*julez*
You know, I could also go for a warm and fresh sticky toffee pudding with custard.

And, Dev, I would pay $6.50 for Branston if they sold it in my supermarket! Luckily, I am seeing the man next week and he's bringing me a few jars AND some battenburg cakes!! So much to be excited for - all my favorite British things!

I need a UK person to send me M&S Cheese Crispies. Hubby's sis is useless for getting them. She PROMISED me twice to get them since Xmas last year, nada. And his old flatmate was just over & he couldn't find them for me. There are like 1.99 & in a square box, cheese wafer type things. I would pay someone gladly to ship me 10 boxes. Thanks for the offer Dev!

Well, I could go to Canada and get some Branston. I found some in a little British shop in Niagara-on-the-Lake. But its an hour drive, a $3.50 toll and $6.95 a jar. Their prices are astonishing! $1.89 for a Crunchie! But on the odd occasions where I do make it there, I fork over the cash somewhat willingly!

Luckily I have Taste of Britain 6 miles away, so we are always stocked with Paxo, Branston pickle, Piccalili,
and loads of Galaxy, Cadburys etc. Last time I went they had 10c bags of mini Cadburys buttons on the counter..yum
In 2 weeks my pop is visiting and Ive requested Weetabix ($5.00 for 12 in local shop!!) and I need to find out if he can bring Smoked Mackerel on the plane...
does anybody know whether that will be allowed through?
It will be a bit warm, but oh how I miss it!!!!

The only smoked fish Ive found here is Smoked Catfish....doesnt really appeal..

Not a Mackerel fan myself, but I do like smoked fish! You should be able to find smoked fish in Atlanta somewhere.
I really like smoked trout or smoked salmon.
But other fishes are good too. Smoked Rock fish.. yummy
Great with crackers and a little cream cheese!

Mmmmm, proper ginger biscuits... I've never had Harrod's ones (well, I have, but they came from various Christmas hampers at least 15 years ago - they might be a bit different now!), but good, posh ginger biscuits ('specially ones with thick dark chocolate all over them) might possibly be my favouritest things EVER.
Lou Lou
I was at my local Shaws tonight and they have expanded their range of brit foods. Weetabix, Grossman's sauces and soups, loads of different marmalades and jams, chunky kit kats, wine gums, loads of biscuits, and all the usual range they have of chocolate, pickles and stuff. It was quite impressive! Considering I am one of only two brits in a town of 8,000 I guess someone must be buying that stuff.

What did I buy? Nowt. After nearly 4 years of living here I guess I've weaned myself off that stuff and realized it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Not that I buy any other muck in place of it either though. If I did want to eat crap, it would be the Brit stuff all the way. yes.gif

Wes informed me before we married there are only two foods from the UK he can't live without - HP Sauce and Branston Pickle.

HP Sauce I can understand. Branston Pickle looks and smells like brown snot. We actually love to wave the jar under the nose of unsuspecting teenagers for their reaction.

I'm fond of Digestives and WagonWheels.

Oh.........we must have tea. Numbarrie or Bewley's. Box-car loads in fact. And that's MY requirement. American tea is floor sweepings.

I am able to get quite a bit of Brit stuff at my local Meijer supermarket, including weetabix, hobnobs, branston, HP, Marmite and gravy granules. Although like someone else said, I have weaned myself off them by now!

What I did ask for the last time someone was coming over was Ibuprofen gel (Ibuleve etc - it is great if you have a stiff neck); Germolene and Oxo cubes. Next time I want a tiny bottle of TCP! Gosh, I sound like a hypochondriac!

A big bar of Cadburys Dairy Milk always goes down well too!
Toshtishtash
My Dad always asks me to bring with me:

McVities dark choc digestive biscuits
Fox's cream biscuits
Mars Bars
Liquorice Allsorts
Daddies sauce
Bovril
Paxo
Suet
Golden Syrup (Which I am ALWAYS terrified is going to explode in my case blink.gif )
Kingsmill bread
Jamaica Ginger Cake
Crumpets
Robinsons orange squash
Rose's Lime Marmalade

Yes. My case is always extremely heavy blink.gif laughing.gif

Now I also have to add Cadbury's caramel for Chris and his daughter Evie....

I think I will ask family members for most of the above when I eventually move over!!! Along with boosts and drifters and marzipan..... Oooooooh and jelly babies.....
