i know this has probably asked millions of times but I couldn't find it. anyhow I will be mailing documents to my spouse... and just wanted to know do i send the original W2's or will copies be ok

Call the IRS, and ask them to send you transcripts of the last three years and that is better than sending the W2’S.

I sent copies of the W2s, no need to send the originals, ever. no0pb.gif

Transcripts are great but I do notice many RFE's asking for the W2s; they seems to be all-important, so why not included them anyway. yes.gif

Copies are fine and sending them in addition to transcripts is no problem.

The reason you see a lot of RFE's for W2s is that people have sent incomplete tax returns. (The W2 is part of the tax return.) With transcripts, you don't need W2's because they show what the IRS has on file. For them to have it on file, by definition, you sent W2's with your tax return. (Electronic filing counts too.)
