Hello again.......

When I get to The States, how do I go about getting a SSN and how long should I wait from arriving in the country to applying for one?

Thanks

helwardman,

You should wait 10-14 days (so you show up in the computer system) - bring your passport and birth certification to your local Social Security office - complete the form. That's about it. good.gif

2 weeks, to allow USCIS to update the system that SSA uses to confirm your status.

You forget one thing, the I-94. You don't even need to complete the SS-5. They will enter all your info into the computer and print out and application for you to sign and that all the info is correct.
