As far as criteris goes for documentation, you may want to double check with your embassy on this, but in my case, they wanted my wife's police certificate translated to english, then they wanted another document signed and dated by the translator saying that whatever was translated has the same meaning in english, and that he is competent enough in the language to translate teh document.

I want to add my 2 cents here. What the NVC says was pretty confusing to me. I called my local police station telling them I needed a certificate and they told me they don't do such a thing. They told me to use the regular criminal record (the one you're asked to give for certain jobs...)
I then checked my US embassy website and that's the document they want: a copy of my criminal record from the national database. It has nothing to do with my address and how long I lived there. Everyone in France has one and you ask it to the department of justice.
I suggest that you double check on the US embassy website of your country. The NVC will tell general information. On the other and, the US embassy knows how your country works and will tell you exactly what document they need and how to obtain them.

About the translation: anybody can translate it, you need to include a paper where the person that translate it certifies that he/she speaks the language and that the translation is accurate. They will verify every document at the interview anyway.
About the police certificate: at least in Germany and Italy there is only one national database, where everything a person has done shows up no matter how many addresses have changed. Those are the ones I'm requesting.

hi
As for my experience goes.... I requested an english PCC, because in India they dont give out in english... so had to cough up some money .... to get one... LOL
Just request it.... One things for sure.. NVC/ Embassy requires all documents in English ...... whatever than it may be.

Must be translated to english. Also wise to have a government ministry attesting (putting their seal of approval on document) translation is true to the original version.
