My fiance and I had set a date for our wedding - knowing that we might have to change it, but putting it at a date conveniently a few weeks after my interview in Montreal to give us enough time that the likelihood of having to push the date into the future was low (we also got someone who does free weddings, etc. so it wouldn't really be a big deal at all if we had to change it)

But we have basically decided that if possible, we should get married earlier - as soon as possible, actually, once I have the visa in my hands. So, we already have a couple of ideas - but what I'm wondering is basically if there is anywhere where people do last minute notice marriages (since obviously we don't know when Montreal will put my visa in the mail - and we might have 3-4 days notice anyway because of having to get the license.)

I'm curious if any of you have done this and how it worked out. We're also seriously considering going to Massachussetts because that is one of the places I know we can get a friend to get a one time license to perform a marriage and don't need any witnesses!!!! smile.gif Ideally it would be a place either in NJ or NY or a state not too far away because we're definitely not going to fly to California for this!!! lol

We got married at the local magistrate's office, and there is no appointment necessary. We got our license on a Tuesday and got married the following day. Check with the county or city office websites, information about weddings would be listed there somewhere.

Also, if you know anyone "ordained" with the ULC they could marry you in the middle of the night while wearing pajamas if you want. Heck, you've got time now, just have one of your friends go to their website and get ordained and buy the wedding kit. By the time you get your interview they'll be ready!

Oh yeah, I saw a bunch of info on that, but, we wouldn't be comfortable with that. We both take the Bible very seriously and would find it incredibly offensive. So we definitely would not encourage a friend to do it - what's attractive to us about Massachussetts is that the friend does not have to be a minister at all. However, if we knew of someone who already did that we might go with them anyway so we didn't have to worry about driving to Mass...

Thanks!
