I know that if someone files an I-130 as an LPR, and they later become a citizen, they can always contact USCIS (or NVC) and ask them to upgrade the petition.

So my question is, is it better to hold onto the I-130 until I get citizenship...

Or should I file right now, and seek an upgrade once I am a citizen?

Anybody know which method is better?

how close are you?

It takes about 1 year to get the I-130 processed as a USC, I didn't think it was that much longer for a permanent resident?

My opinion is file now, waiting is wasting time.

Don't wait...file now and when you are USC, update the application. By the time you become a USC the petition will more than likely be current. Good luck biggrin.gif
