Hi all. This separation is taking a toll on my wife. Our relationship is still great, we just miss each other terribly, as i'm sure a lot of people can relate to. However, I have decided with my wife that if her application is still pending with USCIS or possibly NVC by January then I am going to take a leave of absence from work and "move" to Peru for a month or two to be with her during this time. Question is, how will this affect my application if it progresses through USCIS or through NVC if I am overseas? Can I complete all the NVC paperwork at the embassy or register with the embassy when I am there to have any updates or information forwarded to my Peru address? Just wondering just in case I do decide to go to Peru in Jan/Feb next year if the papers still are pending here. Thanks in advance

I think you posted this somewhere else as well and I don't know if you got an answer there or not.

You can't do the NVC stuff through the embassy. What I would recommend is that you finish the NVC process and then move to Peru for a bit while it's forwarded to the embassy and she waits for her interview.

However, if you haven't gotten the point of assigning an agent yet, I believe the default agent will actually be your wife and the NVC papers would only have come to you if you had filled out a form to the choice of agent.

Thanks Margot. I kinda got the same answer from someone in the IR1/CR1 forum, but your answer is a little more helpful. So basically, I should wait until the NVC paperwork is completed and then go there for a month or two and be with my wife at the interview, which I am told helps tremendously anyway so that is good I guess. Its just more waiting time and more uncertainty. which always sucks!!!!!

That plan of action is certainly the safest. The waiting and uncertainty does suck. If you only want to stay in Peru for a month or two though and be at the interview, you should definitely wait until after the NVC stuff is done.
