hope u can answer them straightforwardly please

you dont apply for nuttin. Just show up in the US with your passport. Be ready to prove that you have return tickets, and proof of your intentions of retuning to the UK.
baf
Ohh ok thats simple! And how long am I allowed to stay if i want to extend my time there over two weeks ?

So whats the B2 and VWP for?

you have your British passport machine readable and all.....buy a ticket and go and return within 90 days. I take it you have no pending immigration applications?

you do not need to apply for a visa....unless you have a criminal record...the link meauxna posted tells you all you need to know really.

The visa waiver program is a reciprocal program between most western european countries and the US.

It means you can enter the US without a visa for a stay of up to 90 days. You're prohibited from working or receiving any government benefits during your stay. As a UK citizen, you can use the visa waiver program for your entry.

When they ask you how long you're planning on staying, let them know when you plan to leave, and be prepared to show the return ticket if asked.

Please go to the US Consulate/London's webpage and read their voluminous section on how to travel to the US as a visitor.
It really is all spelled out.

B2 is a tourist visa. They allow a longer stay in the US, but are harder to get in the UK. Not all countries have reciprocity agreements with the US regarding visitors, and people from those countries cannot use the Visa Waiver Program. Therefore, they must have a B2.
