Hello Everyone. I am new to the forum and have found it very, very useful. In a couple of days my fiance and I are going to start the K-1 process (yippy!) The problem is that I am just graduating college. I do not have a job, I did have a job 2 months ago and the length of that job was only 8 months. However, I am about to start looking for a job and everything. I want to start the K-1 visa already because my fiance in the Philippines is also just graduating and we would love to start our lives together. We met a long time ago in high school because she came as a foreign exchange student, we visited each other a lot (which cost a lot too). Now we are about to start our careers and we wont have time go visit each other, I proposed to her a year ago but now I think its time for us to get the K1. The problem is the I-134 income requirements, how could I even be a sponsor? What would I show, what could I show if I do not work yet. My Mother will be a Co-Sponsor and she does meet the requirements for everything without question. I am worried that when they she goes to the interview and they see my lack of income that it will be a big problem. My fiance and I plan to live and work together. We're both college graduates. If anyone could give me any type of advice it would be great.

Go ahead and file the petition. The I-134 isn't required until a few months later. So, get a job and get on with your life.

Yeah, I was considering that however, Im looking at the worst possible situation where I can not find a job within the given time (not saying I wouldnt, just preparing for the worst).

Any other suggestions?

Research the stories of other members petitioning the Philipine consulate.

If you weren't dealing with Manila, I would say get a joint sponsor but that can be problematic for a K visa in Manila. You're going to need a job to support your wife and pay the costs associated with getting her here. So, get a job, even if it's not a job you like.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Yeah Im getting a job of course, I would not start the K1 process if I did not have the funds to do so...which I do have by the way. Just getting nervous about it all. I will still be using my mother as a co-sponsor, is that a problem?
