While you are waiting your SO can call DOS at 202 663 1225 ( press 1, press 0 ) and ask for your case status update.
There is nothing you can do other than wait for it to be completed.

Your wife can also do a congressional inquiry, they will get the same response you got but at least the case gets some attention after
such a long time. She can contact her Senators or Congressman.

DOS=Department of State. The State Department has the case status in their data base. So when the embassy makes a change
on your case DOS will know about it, but in general terms and not in detail.
All you hear may be that your case is still pending in AP / AR.
I found out that the embassy had ordered a DNA test but they never informed me and DOS saw it on their computer screen and I started the proceedings for that and I told the embassy that I was aware of the DNA request.
Often the embassies take some time to inform an applicant that AP/AR is complete but if you call DOS every 2 weeks or so to check your
status then you may find out sooner.
It is not the magic bullet but at least there is something to do. Keep emailing your embassy periodically inquiring about your case status so they
know you are both actively pursuing the petition.
