I was looking up on the state website and found that I have everything I need to get a drivers license but I haven't lived here 183 days. Is that a necessary requirement for residency when you are married and are obviously not moving out of the state? I wanted to get my license today but now I'm discouraged as it appears I have to wait.

Every state is different for what they require for a state driver's license. Do you still have Canadian driver's license? Most states allow using the foreign license until you meet the residency requirement.

Yes, I still have my Canadian drivers license but was afraid it may be invalid because I didn't change my address on it. I didn't think I could put a U.S. address on it.
Oh wait. I'm on my wife's insurance now with that license and there hasn't been a problem so I guess I can wait. It just means a longer period of time before I could get a CDL if I wanted to.

you should look at the dmv site for your respective state and if in doubt, just call...it's what I did and my question was answered quickly and thoroughly
