Does anybody here got an idea what goes out in the civil service examination here in the U.S.? I wanted to apply in a government hospital and they require this kind of examinations. Do i still have to know who the politicians and the U.S. laws and regulations? Or is it like the civil service examinations in the PI? I'm really worried!

I took one when looking at a job with the USPS but that was so long ago that I don't remember what they asked. Did you try to google it?

I don't think you can get federal jobs unless you are a US Citizen.

Agreed....you should look at the eligibility requirements for a federal government job. Any I've looked at you must be a US citizen to apply. State jobs however, or those I've looked into, just require your PR status.

Thanks fof the advice but then when i called the Hospital i was going to apply they told me that I am also qualified to work eventhough Im a GC holder only. I tried browsing in the internet and this is what it says:

There is no longer a single Civil Service Exam to cover all government jobs. Moreover, many jobs with the federal government no longer require written tests. To find out if a particular job opening requires such a test, contact the listing agency's personnel department for further assistance and guidance.

But then the hospital i'm going to work really requires it. I also looked it up 3 days ago and found no answers when the dates of the next exams would be. Im really sad! I really wanna work in the Government Hospitals here.

My understanding however is that some jobs require a Civil Serive Exam, but this isn't the same as being a US Citizen at all. Sometimes a written exam is needed because the job doesn't just require a verbal interview with someone. It's a combination of the written and oral. This is not the same as being a US Citizen at all. Now you've mentioned that it says a GC holder can obtain employment, so maybe the job your speaking about can accept GC holders for employment. This must not be a federal agency then.

Just re-read your last reply and I'd suggest you apply anyway, and they will probably contact you with a testing date. Sometimes they don't post the exam dates because they wait for enough people to apply first. For one job I looked at, it told you you'd have to take a civil service exam, but stated that they are held at various times throughout the year. Another one said that I could add my name to the "eligibility list" of applicants, but that until a vacancy became open, they wouldn't be calling anyone for an exam. You might want to check this out!
