My mother, acting as joint sponsor, checked the box stating that she is one of two joint sponsors by mistake. Can we make a correction on the form, include a note, or does she have to complete a new one. She got highly dramatic over having to take the time to notarize and ship ship the form overseas the last time. Also, my mother never disclosed how much she has in savings nor did she get a note from the bank. On the form it says optional but isn't this exactly what visa officials want to know?

Thanks,

I would think a new one has to be completed - don't know if you can make corrections to a notarized document. I do remember that the I-864 does not need to be notarized, unless it's different for China (I'm sure some God will come in and correct me if I am wrong wink.gif )
She only needs to note the amount in her bank accounts if she needs that income to pass the poverty lines. If not, her income from tax returns is enough.
Good luck, L.

She'll need to do a new one, but the form doesn't have to be notarised unless the embassy in China has explicitly instructed you to do so. If the form she's using says it needs to be notarised, then she's using an outdated form. The most recent form, and the one to use, can be found at the USCIS web site.

If her income is sufficient, she can definitely leave the assets/savings info page blank. Her income needs to be sufficient for her household number plus your spouse without including any of your income or assets. Good luck! smile.gif

That's a relief. Thanks everyone for your quick replies.
