I wanted to post this on the Japanese portal but didn't see how to. Apparently there a few different types of Japanese police certificates and I wanted to know which type my fiance needs to get and how much it costs. Does he just go to the local city hall or shisho to get it? Thanks for any help.

Perhaps try the Regional Discussion > Asia: East and Pacific (Except China) forum?

Thanks, that part we knew. The problem was when he asked about getting it (he's a Japanese National) they asked what type of certificate he needed and when he mentioned it was for a K1 visa, they said there are a few types of certificates. I'm sure it will say in the packet once we get our NOA2 and it is forwarded to the embassy there, we thought we'd try to get a head start on it since we knew we'd have to wait a couple of weeks and he has next week off work to do some running around if need be. I just thought that maybe someone here who has been through this phase could tell me which one it is (as the embassy in Tokyo charges to ask questions either by email or phone). Thanks for your help.

We tried to get this done early too, but were told that there is a specific form in the packet that they will have to bring in to get the police certificate.
