Bill and Hayley
Ive been under the impression that after having my interview that i cant travel even with AP til i get my green card, but ive just read on here that other people have, can anyone help me with my confusion, read 2 different things on here about it.

If green-card is approved and passport is stamped with I-551 stamp you can re-enter the country using the I-551 stamp or GREEN-CARD. If approved "Pending Name Check" then you need to use AP for re-entry.

so i can leave the country without a I-94 card? since they take that at the interview. This is the bit i was confused about.

YES yes.gif once approved and have I-551stamp or Green-Card you have no need for the I-94 card, you are no longer a NON-Immigrant or visitor, LPR does not need I-94 card.

Also when re-entering the country a green-card holder does not need to fill out an I-94 card.

sorry for not explaining myself properly, i mean can i travel between having the interview and recieving the green card...why i ask is i have my interview soon but want to travel just after, but might get stuck in FBI name check so might not get green card straight away. I also heard they no longer stamp your passport at the interview?

If no stamp and pending FBI name check, you WILL need AP to leave the country.

You've explained yourself just fine.

I don't know the answer to your question (and yuanddan doesn't either)....

Hopefully someone with experience will come along and offer some answers.

I think I see what you're saying now.

If you get caught in namecheck, you're not officially approved so your AP will still be valid to use until the expiration date on it.

If you are approved at your interview, your AP is no longer valid and you'll have to wait for your greencard to arrive to travel OR request the I-551 stamp in your passport. Some offices still issue it at the interview and some don't. I have also read that after approval and before the greencard arrives you can make an infopass appointment to get the stamp in your passport.

Just wanted to add a note about "If you are approved at your interview, your AP is no longer valid." That's what I have read from people here. I do know that some offices (not all, mine didn't) will take your EAD and AP at the interview if you are approved at the interview.
