Yes when completing the affidavit of support is it more important to have a sizeable amount in the bank account or just to show that you meet the income requirement? I have had to spend a good deal of money this year, to prepare for this process; therefore I dont have much in the bank. However, I do make a good salary.

Current income is the key. If you income is sufficient, you may simply leave all references to assets blank.

Income is KEY

The consulates tend to treat the I-134 like a mini-I-864 as so prefer the same financial evidence as the I-864.

In our case this what the I-134 included.
  • I-134 signed and notarized.
  • Tax transcripts from the IRS for past 3 years, (Redundant for the (1040,W2,1099) but are free from the IRS
  • Photo copy of IRS form 1040, and W2s for past 3 years
  • Letter from my employer stating annual salary, job responsibility, and that is full time, on company letterhead.
  • Photo copies of past month or so of pay stubs up to a few weeks before the interview.
My income was well above 125% povertyline so I did not include any asset data.

From Manila:
QUOTE
EVIDENCE OF SUPPORT. You should be able to demonstrate that you will not become a public charge or be a burden on the U.S. taxpayers for financial support. Submit your petitioner's most recent U.S. Federal Income Tax Return (Form 1040) and Wage and Tax Statements (Form W-2). Employment letters stating salaries and bank statements may be included. A completed I-134 Affidavit of Support Form (signed and notarized less than one year prior to your visa application) will be useful to the consular officer to evaluate your petitioner's ability to be financially responsible for you.

I put my wife on my company Insurance and made her beneficiary on my life insurance. (Intended to do that anyway)
When The Documentation arrived I included it in the package. Showing she would enter the USA fully insured.
also included the following
I-134 included.
I-134 signed and notarized.
Tax transcripts from the IRS for past 3 years, (Redundant for the (1040,W2,1099) but are free from the IRS
Photo copy of IRS form 1040, and W2s for past 3 years
Letter from my employer stating annual salary, job responsibility, and that is full time, on company letterhead.

Don't worry about that. My husband cash in bank in I-134 was not impressive at all (as in). The CO will be more concern on the ITR, pay stubs, employment letter.

Possibly a silly question, but I'm assuming the I-134 is needed for the interview at the embassy...is this correct? Also, when is the I-864 needed?
island_princess
Both are needed during the embassy interview. I-134 is for K visa applications, and I-864 is for CR/IR immigrant if they intend to have an interview at their local(country) US embassy. If they are going CR/IR all the way (no I-129F submitted) , the I-864 is submitted to the NVC. Also, it will be needed during AOS for K visa holders.
