Full Version: Future Income?

Well, I was surprised to read a thread that mentioned that, during the interview, future income does not qualify for the I-864 of the sponsor. I've been living in the UK for almost 2 years with my husband on a 2 year visa, so I've been working here. I was instructed by the NVC to use my current income on my I-864 here, but this income will end at the end of this month since we are moving back to California. I do have a job that I've accepted in the UK and it starts immediately upon my entry into the country. I have letters from my employer to prove the job is permanent and the income I will have.

If future income doesn't count, how do American sponsors who have been living abroad temporarily ever prove support? If you've been living abroad and are moving back, all income is future income because you haven't moved yet. I'm just getting a little worried now because we were anticipating our case to be completed in the next week or so and sent to London, and we certainly don't want to get bad news at the interview.

Anyone been in this situation before? blink.gif

I would definitely try to find this out before you go to the embassy. Has anyone else had their visa approved using future income for their affidavit of support?

When I was at the embassy on Tuesday the officer said "future income cannot be used. The US government want to see that you're earning the income NOW". He was very polite and helpful but clearly said it can't be used.

Maybe it's different for you because I did DCF and it looks like you've taken a different route. Perhaps the rules are different. I'm not an expert at any of this and I don't presume to know what will happen in your situation. Hopefully someone in the know can inform you if what I'm saying applies to you as well.

Best of luck. Hope you get it sorted.

You will need to arrange for a co-sponsor!

When we did our visa my wife (USC) was working in the UK and would have no job in the US. We used as the supporting income what her Oregon Public Employees Pension would be if she chose to take it when we got to the US. Included as proof was a pension statement from Oregon PERS giving the figures. The Embassy accepted that didn't ask if we had arranged for the pension payment, we hadn't and had no intention to do so until this August when it reached its maximum payment. They didn't ask any questions at all about our finances just issued the visa.

I've seen where a person was approved without the petitioner meeting the Min Poverty Guidelines.
However she was a young practicing doctor in the Philippines with excellent earning potential.
CO was still hesitant but did approve her.
Rare tho for the average person.
Safer for people doing DCFs to get a co sponsor if they are borderline with assets or income.

We did it using assets.

My husband was actually already in the US and earning money by the time we got to the stage of I-864, but they still weren't interested in his income because he'd only been working there a few weeks.

Thanks for all the advice guys!

I do have a joint sponsor and included his I-864 with the original packet so hopefully they will be okay with that. We're actually getting held up at the NVC right now, as for the second time they have sent out a checklist saying there is missing information for the I-864. I'm calling the NVC tonight to speak with an operator. I want so badly to give them the information that they want, but I just don't know what they want!

Good Luck with NVC, I hope you resolve that one quickly biggrin.gif

I think a joint sponsor is a good idea if there is any doubt about current/future income. At my interview we listed current income and said it was going to continue in the US (both of us living in UK). They wouldn't count anything earned in the UK, and wouldn't count it as continuing without proof from a company. We used assets instead as this was simpler than trying to prove self employed income as continuing.

Keep us updated with the NVC news good.gif

Just curious. How does the NVC know that she was a young practicing doctor with excellent earning potential.
Did the petitioner have a co sponsor in this case?
I don't meet the min. poverty guidelines since I am a full time student last year and this year. $6000 for 2006 Just me and my wife) Also I was out of country for 5 months both years. I am trying to get a co sponser for me. But he made just a little above 125% poverty guidelines last year $21000 - 2006 for 3 people (makes way more this year finished school!).
What do i need to do get this done? I am really worried.
