I called the airline to schedule reservations for my fiance. We are planning for him to leave out of Senegal. The rep said that Senegal might not let him out of the airport with just a one-way ticket.

Has anyone dealt with this? I'm anxious to buy his ticket, but now I'm freaking out about the one way thing.

If he was coming on a tourist visa a return ticket would be needed. However, your honey has a K-1 visa. In the land of Visas K-1 and K-3 are the bomb, the shiznit, mucho premo or phat so don't you worry about dat. (practicing my slang lingo).

LOL, you have me cracking up! I thought so and I was trying to explain it to her, but I got off the phone fearing the possibility of another bump on this journey. I love VJ for all of it's helpful members. What I will probably also do is have him print out K-1 visa explanations from USCIS and have him point out the part about marrying within 90 days and adjusting his status. If he is asked...

A lot of people book one way tickets and are fine.
You might want to double check with someone about them not letting him out without a return leg. I don't know who you would call though. The airline? The airport? I have no idea.

One way flights are done in this situation all that time. That person didn't know what they were talking about.

This situation is country specific. In certain countries K1 visa holders are not allowed to leave on a one way ticket.
I have read it here before on VJ, several members had this happen. Wrong or right, the guy was not allowed to leave on a one way ticket.
It was a Mena country I think.
Best idea is to ask whoever went through this particular airport.
I will ask Taurean.

Justice used a one way ticket...he also spoke with someone at the airport that gave him wrong information...the man at the consulate told him a one way ticket would be fine.

I was trying to google Senegal and one-way tickets, but I ended up hunting down the South African Airways ticket office number in Senegal and I will call them tomorrow and ask them.

I just got in touch with the immigration dept. at the airport in sengal. I talked to two people who told me that as long as he has a K-1 it is ok for him to have a one-way. She also said I should have him bring a copy of the filed I-129F just to have backup documentation that it really is a K-1 visa. I'm happy that I can go on with our plans.

yeah and book the one-way flight on Delta to JFK or Atlanta. I have flown to Senegal on 2 occasions, and I do NOT recommend South African Airlines.....

He should bring the binder with all of documents aswell as the I-129F. When Kings and I got our marriage license, he had to pull out one of those documents from the binder to verify an issue that was brought up with his affidavit of birth document. That binder came in very handy, I would have him bring it in his carry on.

Yup, I told him not to forget that binder. It looks like it will already come in handy at the airport. Besides, I worked hard on that thing and want it for my memories, lol. Thanks for the advice.

You are absolutely right!!! When I first suggested he bring it to US, I was not thinking he would need it, I just wanted to gawk at my excellent work a lil more.
However, it came in very handy for other purposes.

Lovinliberia: I am happy to know that you were able to get some answers to your questions. I took South African Airways just last year in Nov. and I loved it! Hubby flew SA over here in January and everything went fine. A friend of ours took Delta over to Dakar just in the last few weeks and they lost his luggage. I really think it's hit or miss with any airline these days!
In any case I hope you have a happy reunion! Congratulations on getting this part of the journey behind you.

Thanks for letting me know that. I am curious to see how SA will do. I took Delta from Ghana and it was HORRIBLE. The worst experience of my life and it was the reason I ended up stranded in Ghana an extra 6 days. Delta was just fine going to Africa. I don't think Delta stays on top of their standards when flying from outside of the US. in my situation, it was being run like two different companies under the Delta name. I do think airlines are hit and miss, also.

JJ, what happened with your SAA experience? I would like your review on the airline before I book the flight.
