I just filed for my EAD last week and im wondering if once i get my receipt number can i then be employed? OR i need to have the actual EAD card before i will be hired?

you'll need the actual EAD card. having a receipt number only shows that USCIS has received your application. only until you have the EAD are you legally able to be employed. don't worry, it shouldn't take long. my wife thought 3 months was long but it flies by very quick.

Not true. You are legally allowed to work as soon as the EAD is approved, you don't need to physically have the card on your person to be legally employed. Once the EAD is approved, you can sign an I-9 and you have 90 days in which to show your employers the actual EAD card (it should show up within a few weeks of approval, so this 90 day limit is no problem).
