How long does it take on average if we wanted to bring my husband's UK parents to the US? I would assume it is much faster being a citizen of the US then a Permanant Resident.... This probably won't happen for a long long while, but it's always nice to know in advance. Thanks!

A permanent resident can't petition for parents. Only a US citizen 21 years of age or older can do that.

Parents of US citizens are considered immediate relatives and they are not subject to immigration quotas - visa numbers are immediately available to them. Once your husband becomes a USC, he can file a relative petition for his parents, and the whole process shouldn't take more than a year.

Boiler, why do you always assume that Health insurance is a big issue for everyone.... everyone knows that they need health insurance when they live in the US.... and the OP has not told us the age of the parents so it may well be that they would be intending to work in the US and even if they are retired they can still get health insurance...

Retired, not Working, Seattle. We do not know if they are very wealthy.

From my experiance most people either have no clue or have given it no consideration.

I do not now which category applies in this case.

Either way, it's none of our business.

Your husband would need to become a US citizen before he can petition for his parents to reside in the US. The process shouldnt be too long as mentioned on a previous reply. I will be looking to do the same for my parents in a few years time.

Slightly pertinant to emmigrating to the US.

Well for 90% plus on here.
