Hi All,
I was out of Kolkata for a few days .But now back and now making preparations for applying for my Tourist Visa to USA for 20 days.I am 30 .Now I am making arrangements to show the following :

a) MY Cousin who is a citizen there is sponsoring my for everything there and the both way fares.I am waiting for The I-134 as well as the invitation letter from him.

cool.gif Invitation letter also from my cousin sister & my friend , to visit them. Thus I wd be having 3 invitation letters.

c) Bank A/c here in India that has exited in India That is existent for over 10 yrs. However I am showing as I am student now( taking a specialised course ) , my father is providing me the pocket money. But this money I am showing is my own from a job I was in , and has been kept stored with my dad.

d) Since I am a freelancer at the present moment I am showing that I am on a 3D project for last 1 & half yrs and its still continuing and I wd return and finish the project to get the certificate. So a letter from my Institute.

e) My LIC, Mediclaim , PPF diposits that is continuing still now.

f) Also after i return I wd have a campus Interview , so I am going for a tour in the vaccation.

Needed to know the following :

a) I am showing my income tax return certificate for the period I ave been employed.Should I also have to show my dad`s income tax return certificates and bank statements as he is giving me the money in my account ??

cool.gif We have a appartment in which we live.BUt thats in Dad`s name.So is it very necessary to show it in my name, making Dad declare on a Notary Stamp Paper ??If he declares now , just before the visa application , wont that look suspicious ??

Please Respond .......... as I would have to change things based on replies I get !!

Namaste Amlan,

As I've mentioned, I think the Consulate is going to be most interested in documents that show you are likely to return to India. In my opinion, items a, b, and c are OK, but item d (the letter from your Institute) is good. I don't know anything about the documents mentioned in item e. Regarding item f, do you have a letter from the institution about the campus interview after your proposed trip to the US? That might be helpful, too.

I'm sorry, I don't know the answer to your question about the lease on the apartment.

As to which Consulate you go to, I think it is a moot point since you don't get to choose (as far as I know). But I do think they will all be looking for the same thing: documents which indicate strong ties to India and therefore a likelihood that you will return to India after your visit to the US.

Whatever paperwork you submit to the Consulate when applying for the tourist visa, I suggest you make a separate, complete copy for your records. I would not be surprised if the Consulate later compares your tourist visa application to your K-1 visa application, so you want to make sure that all the information is the same on both.

Best of luck,

Maya

Now thats a Great Reply Maya ...................... anyone in specific knows about the Calcutta Consolate ???

An Visa agent here has told me that Its good if I can show any occassion out at my cousin`s place , who is sponsoring me.Any occassion as his son`s birthday or I wd be there to visit his newborn etc etc .......... is these things necessary ?? or a plain and good invitation leter would serve his purpose ??

2ndly to answer Maya , yes my letter from Institute states that my project has to be diposited within December and my campus interview wd be assigned after I return from the trip .

3rdly anyone aware of the appartment issue ??? We have a appartment in which we live. But thats in Dad`s name.So is it very necessary to show it in my name, making Dad declare on a Notary Stamp Paper ??If he declares now , just before the visa application , wont that look suspicious ??

I imagine mentioning a specific event in the letter wouldn't hurt, but in my opinion, the very best thing is to be perfectly honest. It is too hard to keep track of half-truths, especially when there are other people involved. And if the Consular staff ever thinks there is any dishonesty, that would be big trouble!

Best wishes!

It is important to only apply for you visa in the area designated at the time of application. It also is regulated by where you live..
I have given the list of the HFDC banks that you can go to pay your fee for interview and receive the receipt with barcode. The only other way you are able to get a interview out of the designated area is if when you apply online for you interview tru VFS you click on english is choice of interview.. and if your area allows you would be given a option at that time for a different state to apply.

If you are a resident of India, you are required to select your current ‘State of Residence’ where you have been residing for the past six months or longer. Later in the process, when you are scheduling your interview, you may see calendars offering dates at more than one post. If you are a fluent English speaker and have not been previously refused a visa, you may select an interview date from any post shown. If you are not fluent in English or were previously denied a visa, you must select a date only from the post covering the area where you reside. Applicants denied a visa can only seek to have the decision reviewed by reapplying at the post where the denial occurred.

Indian citizens resident in the USA on work permit and applying for a new visa to replace an expiring visa can request an appointment at any of the four visa sections.

I looked on the vfs site and did a check to see most recent interview dates for you .. I entered english as the language for interview.. (that to some states gives them different interview options) however when i entered for your state.. It only gives the option for Kolkata for your interview.. also.. it is specified on the site.. that if you appear for a interview.. in a location other that the location that is specified for you state of residence.. then your interview will be canceled and you will need to reschedule

Please be careful on how you apply.. to make sure you do it right.

What is rifhr?

I did look at that person's reply and think they are just trying to make you be realistic about it. You may get the visa, you may not. You just have to remember the realistic points that no matter how much you plan they may not grant you a tourist visa.

As many have said, it's worth at least applying because even if you are denied it won't damage your chances for a future fiance/marriage based visa after your SO visits India(if you can't visit the US).

Amlan,

I think you have already thought about all the angles and come up with what ties you do have. All you can do now, imho, is document them as well as possible. Numerous people have said that it is difficult to get a tourist visa from India to the US, so this poster is not saying anything new, really. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try. Just be prepared for either outcome.

I think you are worrying yourself sick about something over which you have very limited control. Just be positive, do the best you can, and adjust your plans based on the outcome.

Best,

Maya
