Hi, my wife is in Toronto right now and Montreal consulate that processes Toronto visas is super slow (5-6 months). She can "move" to Vancouver (we have some friends there), which takes 1-2 months (so fast!).

The question is will they ask about why and what, etc, etc. She won't be actually moving to Vancouver, we'll just change the address. I cannot bear another 5-6 months of waiting just because consulate is slow.

Of course you can change address. However, depending on the location of your petition, you should update your current address with the Embassy/Consulate.

Will they ask why? Perhaps. Just be honest as to the rationale for the address change.

In addition, have someone check the "old" mailbox as well, to be sure. Mail does get misdirected, you know.

So you think at the interview if we tell them that we didn't actually move and we just really wanted to get the visa faster, they will be ok? I hope they don't get mad and fail the interview...

Why you changed addresses is completely irrelevant here, isn't it. TMI always hurts.

I definitely agree, but what if they ask directly as part of the interview? Do you think I should just say what's really going on?
