Sawatdee krup... สวัสดีครับ

I wonder if maybe I could ask the group for a favor...

Hi, I'm Jeff (the USC) and my fiancée is Lek. She is Thai (living in Bangkok). I've submitted the I-129F and am just now waiting for the NOA1 (and the whole rest of the process). Anyway, her English is "pretty good" and my Thai is coming along but I was hoping that maybe one of you had a Thai fiancée who really understood the process and could explain to Lek what's coming and what she's going to need to do.

Not looking for a new best friend or anything like that but if you wouldn't mind a short phone call or maybe to walk her through the flowchart over a coffee?

Thanks so much

Hey Jeff,

Congrats on starting the K-1 process! In our case, I did 100% of the paperwork for my fiancee. That is all the paperwork for the petition, and then also all the Pkt 3&4 paperwork that was sent to her house much later in the process. She had to do her part as well, which essentially consisted of collecting alot of her own supporting documentation (Birth Certficates etc/translations etc...). However, when it came down to filling out all the paperwork, I did all of it. I would ask her some questions that I didn't know (like birthdates of parents etc..), and then I would put all that information in the forms. This process worked out for us because I (like you) was in Thailand with her for quite a bit of the process...so it made it simple. If you have some questions we can probably help you out...

Peace nd continued good luck on your visa journey,
Mark-N-AAm

If only that were the case... I'm actually in the States. I've been thinking alot about going for another visit but don't really want to try to time it with Packet 3. I'm prepared to do all the paperwork it's just that I want her to fully understand about the process and be able to ask someone who does questions (if she's got any).

Thanks again
Magenta
I'm going to move this to the Thailand forum. You might have greater luck with finding someone who speaks Thai there.

We are finished now and my fiancee is due here from Thailand in a couple of days. PM me and maybe we can communicate. I am sure my fiancee would not mind emailing her and helping her in anyway. Good luck.

Hi Jeff!

Just because you may not speak the best Thai, and she may not speak the best English, doesn't mean you shouldn't try to explain this to her directly. There are going to be many important private conversations you will need to have over the course of your lifetime, and i would advise you guys to get cracking on learning how to get these points across directly. It will make your relationship stronger.

Best of luck!

Yes good advice and I do appreciate it... I've explained it and I think she understands everything I just really want her to hear it from someone for whom Thai is the 1st language and who is also going thru the process.

Reach449 CONGRATS...!!!

I'll drop you a PM and we can get them in touch via e-mail. Thanks very much. I really want her to feel more engaged in the whole process if you know what I mean. All this sitting and waiting I fear will make her crazy if she doesn't feel more a part of it all.

I had meant to post this in the Regional (Asia: East & Pacific) branch but by mistake posted it on the general board so Mag's moved it. I also posted it on the Sawasdee II thread (I would actually call that the Thailand Forum).

I love this place...
